Barranco Old chruch
Barranco Old chruch September 9th, Maca & Barranco
I have been here nine days today, mostly on my own with no Espanol or very little "poco", this can be frustrating. Slowly a word here and there. Peru has more European tourist than American, most Europeans speak Spanish and most speak several languages. I can't even speak a few words of Spanish. This world is getting smaller and smaller, it seems our education system should get serious about teaching other languages. You don't have to travel, look out your back door, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese is being spoken all around you.
Enough about my Spanish problem. Yesterday, I had a very productive meeting with Martin. Martin and his brother own 2000 hectors of land in the highlands, Ancash, production facility, laboratory and warehouses in Miraflores, Lima. Their company name is MG Natural, they are known for the highest quality Maca in Peru. They manufacture Maca powder, gelatinized Maca powder, Extract Maca Powder, shampoo, conditioner and the list goes on. They sell in the grocery stores, pharmacies, and anyplace Maca is sold. They export to Europe, Canada, United States, and all central and South American countries to include Mexico. I have spent the last four

Barranco Square years trying to find the very best Maca, this is it.
I have decided to narrow my products to three to begin with, Gelatinized in 500mg-100 capsule bottles, Extract 6:1 in 100mg-90 capsules in bottles and bulk powder, availble in 1/4 lb, 1/2 lb, pound and kilo. The bulk can be used for smoothies, mixed in juice or home capped for naturalist. The brand name will be Maca Master and will be sold on macamaster.com, don't go looking, the site is not up yet. So, the order is placed, the labels being designed, the bottles being filled. My order should be completed before I come home.
I am going to Ancash Monday and Tuesday to see the crops and meet the farmers. The people in the highlands speak a different language, several different languages are spoken in the highlands and many more in the jungle. When I return I will spend time in the factory and lab. Stay tuned for pictures.
Today I actually took a regular bus to Barranco, quite an experience with no Spanish. I made it, of course I knew the area having been there before. I will add a few pictures of the

September 10th, Beach & Via maria
Today is a full day, up early, breakfast and the beach. I have made plans with Bill to have breakfast see the surfers and hang gliders. Bill is from California, he resides both here and the States. He converts cars from gasoline to natural gas and propane. This cuts your petro bill in half. Natural gas and propane is readily available at most service stations and interdependent stations. So, that's Bill. We had breakfast at the Cafe, my Doodles away from home. The beach is only four of five blocks from the cafe and apartment. It' early and the beach is beginning to fill with surfers and the gliders are beginning to soar. It' sunny today, rare in Miraflores this time of the year. The weather is much like
Stairs To The Beach
Stairs To The beach Seattle. The sun shines much more in the summer which starts in November and December. The beach is not sand on this part of the beach, it is what looks like river rock. This particular part of the beach is for beginners and those who want to learn. North and south of here you will find sandy beaches and higher waves. A little south of here is the longest running waves in the world. Bill, being a surfer tells me you will tire before you run the full length of the wave. This is where they hold the South American surfing competition. As you will see from the pictures a cliff surrounds most of the beaches here in Lima and most of the Peruvian coast.
From atop the cliff is Love park where the hang gliders take off. If you are brave enough you can give it a go. There is a constant wind 24/7 here, you can soar forever. You can climb stairs from the beach to the street Malacon Balta, where I live and if that doesn't kill you, you can climb to Love park. From the beach to Love park is over 1000 ft above sea
level and to many stairs to count. It's got to be good for my heart.
I will upload a few pictures here and give you a link to see the rest. You must copy and paste the link in your address bar. This travel blog is a free site and lacks all the bells and whistles.
I returned back to the apartment about 4:00 O'clock, Ian called and invited me to his Pizzeria and home in Via Maria, a thirty minute car ride or forty five minute bus ride. For the true Peruvian experience I elected to ride the bus. Ian took a combi (a van converted to a small bus) here and we rode the bus back to Via Maria. I don't recommend this to the average tourist. In case you don't remember Ian owns the apartment I rent and is from Ohio. He is a retired motorcycle racer.
I have had several of you ask about poverty in Peru, a short drive from Miraflores will yield a resounding YES. I have never been to Mexico but this is what I imagine it to be. Shanties, pot holes big enough to swallow a man to dirt
Beach
Beach roads. Very depressed! Then you will see a huge modern building with neon lights rising from the swallow. Game rooms, movie theater, bars, etc. Odd looking to say the least. As we approach Via Maria I feel a little uneasy, Ian lives here?? His Pizzeria is the cleanest restaurant in the area. Modern for the area. His house blends with the wall to wall houses with gates and dis-repair. Once you enter it is quite nice, hardwood and stone floors, as modern as we have in the USA. Modern kitchen, big screen TV, computers with all the bells and whistles. Shocking!
It was dark and I couldn't take pictures. I took a couple of shots of the Pizzeria. Ian has a beautiful Peruvian wife and infant child. It was an experience to see another side of Peru. My thanks for Ian for this privilege.
Here's the link to see all the pictures for the beach and hang gliders.
