Lima
Maga´s dog taking Rob for a skate The last few days we´ve stayed in and around Lima.
Friday we explored the markets (which seemed to stop when Rob and I walked in) and ate more Cheviche market style. We met up with some of Maga´s friends Lucia and Nia and headed to Mira Flores for some Pisco sour at a Sushi restuarant/bar. We headed to a couple of other bars in Lima where Rob was very happy to be able to buy a 1.5L beer for $6!
Saturday we spent sleeping, sleeping, sleeping. The jetlag had definitely caught up with us.
Sunday morning we woke up feeling refreshed and as usual to a huge breakfast (today Tomales). In Peru today was the start of Carnivale. It´s basicly an excuse for a massive boys vs girls water fight. We decided to get into the spirit by waterbombing innocent bystanders as we drove to Maga´s Aunt´s house for her birthday lunch. That night we went to a studio/rehearsal room for a little jamming. We just ended up making a lot of horrible noise (apart from Maga´s brother Andres who can actually play guitar) and breaking 2 drums sticks but it was a lot of fun. On the way

Carnivale! home we stopped off at a local resturant for some beef heart skewers. Doesn´t sound appertising but they were actually really good!
Monday morning Maga´s mum (Isabella), Rob, Maga and I went for a drive to find ingredients for Rob´s lunch he was cooking for today. After visiting a few dodgy smelly markets we eventually found what we were looking for! While buying some vegies at the local supermarket I found great amusement in the truck parked in the loading bay. The name of the bread company? Bimbos!
After a delicious lunch of safron, seafood and chorizo chowder and Rob´s famous mussels, Maga, Rob and I set off to visit the beaches south of Lima. One the way we passed some of the poorer areas of Lima. Thousands of tiny huts and shacks covered the side of a huge mountain on the skirts of the city, and also formed little estates just off the highway as we continued south.
Rob and I were also amazed at the billboards that flashed before us as we drove. These weren´t your average billboards they were MASSIVE in all different designs and shapes. It was a little strange driving along this
Lima
Gabriel and Celeste dead straight highway surrounded by the mountains and poor villages, and also seeing these huge expensive ads.
We visited South Beach where Rob enjoyed taking some snaps on my camera at the skate park and I again got some laughs thanks to language differences. There was a little childrens fair set up just off the beach. The website written on the fair tents? www.crapkids.com. Hahaha. Our last stop before heading home was a place called Ibiza Boulevard. The oddest place. It´s basicly an outdoor shopping centre/showroon in the middle of the desert! It´s full of shops, kiosks for companies to promote their products, rides, fast food, cafes, restuarants, bars and big clubs. However everything and I mean everything is up for sponsorship or an opportunity for advertising (eg Johnson & Johnson´s baby play area, TACA seat benches...).
Once back in Lima Maga´s dad (Tito) took us for a night tour of downtown Lima to check out some of the architecture. While I enjoyed the sights Maga, Rob and Andres didn´t manage to make it out of Maga´s suburb before falling asleep!
Lots of photos to come...
