Well after spending the whole of Christmas day on planes or up in the air we finally made it!! We managed to barely sleep on Christmas Eve therefore the 16 hour plane ride to Santiago plus the 8 hours wait at Santiago airport went faster than we thought!!! Before we knew it we were in Peru!
Lima in a nutshell? The place we're staying at in Miraflores (Yannick's grandfather's place) is awesome! Modern little 2 bedroom apartment with a stroll away from the beach and main shopping strip! We really can't complain with anything at the moment! Imagine my surprise when i turn a corner and see a Gold's Gym! Ehh Golds Gym?? In Peru?? There's about 10 of them just in Lima!!! Hmmm advertising option perhaps!!!! No no we're on holidays!!! We hafta say though, we'd never expect to see so many casinos around everywhere!! walking down the main strip you see at least one on every corner!! In one of the pics you'll see Yannick with his uncle in front of one called "Mardigras"......ehhhhhh i wonder if these Peruvians knew of the Mardigras before naming that casino!!?? haha well with the Golds Gym round the cnr im not
surprised hehe
Still getting used to the time differnce...waking up at 5pm (only sometimes! we're still getting used to the time difference! and when you get home at 8am...you wouldnt blame us either!). The food? You can eat like a king here all the food is Amazing! A bit of a culture shock when instead of eating the usual 3am kebab we were eating anticuchos (aka cow hearts!!! Actually not that bad!!!) no really!! What else could you want when nearly every heladeria has ice cream de dulce de leche and every little take away store sells empanadas!!! (I could seriously get used to this!!) Talking about culture shock....Lima even has it's own Chinatown in the main centre!! and it's wasn't until a few days here that i realised "Chifa" was actually Chinese food and not another takeaway chain!! Just picture the little chinitos speaking Spanish....now that's not something you see every day in Sydney!
The first few pics below are from the first night we were in Lima and Yannicks tios and tias took us out to explore the city. We went to El Circuito de Agua which is a park the council has put together which
is a park of water fountains (we have noticed that the Peruvians really like they're water fountains!! They're everywher you look!) For those of you who have been to disneyland and watched Fantasia on the water, El Fuente de la Fantasia is identical...beautifully designed water spraying to differnt sets of music and.... a piece of info for you the Fuente de la Ilusion has just been noted in the guiness world book of world records as being the water fountain fountain with the most highest point! Bet u didn't know that!
The clubs here are insane, INSANE!! Hopefully by the time you're reading this we'll have videos put up as well, trying to reduce the size of them coz they're huge! Now don't be mistaken by the video taken at the first club on the Saturday nite called La Liquid...at the strike of 2.30am, big announcement, and before we knew it chicks dancing on the stages with balloons, streamers and water being thrown from above! Nuts!! The music played was awesome random tracks from Salsa, Hip Hop, Dance you name it!! (and yes, before you ask Rosi did dance the whole nite!! ;p ) All in all we had
an awesome nite and after a very eventful drive home we managed to get home at 8am...you can't blame us for then waking up at 5pm haha
Having been in Sth America before we know that people don't usually get to the clubs by 1ish but getting to a club 15mins before midnight on New Years Eve? Now thats different to Sydney's "Hope you remember the countdown and don't pass out before 11.00pm!!") haha But again, New Years was another eventful getting home by 8am kinda nite... and for s./ 70 (approx $25) we got entry and free alocohol all nite....guys you would've loved this!!! again, you know it's time to go home when you look above at the open roof and see that the sun has already risen and that you would then have to do the walk of shame back home in broad daylight!
As usual, this has turned into a chapter of a book rather than a quick note so until the next one!!! Take care n keep filling us in with all your goss!
Rosi n Yannick xo
Oh, and the random pic of the dog? Un viejito had dressed him up
to get in the mood for New Years!! So cute! Hope you all had a great one!
