Huaca Pucllana Entrance
Did not look like much from outside. Sadly this was to be our very last day in Lima. So we decided to go and visit the Huaca Pucllana ruins. This looked reasonably closeby on the map .... so we thought we'd catch a young walk from the hostel. Yeah right! Ended up taking us over an hour to get there ..... and much to our delight we were rewarded with a free tour of the place ..... by an actual English speaking Peruvian woman! Anshu at this point realised she had done the dumbest thing - she had hidden her money under her matress and started praying and hoping it would still be there when we got back =))
There was a museum section before the tour of the ruins and these housed, amongst other exciting things, a preseved mummy! This was the ruins or origins of Lima city. Constructed from mud bricks, this was a place for banquets, human sacrifices & offerings. The gardens surrounding the ruins were also pretty interesting as I got to see llamas and alpacas.
Pucllana was built by the Lima people around the 5th century and means "a place for games" in Quechua. Was a wonderful historical and cultural rich
Inside the museum
Some of the large clay pots used probably for storing water. day learning about Lima. Luckily most of the money was still there - minus $20. Thoughtful thief, just taking enough to enough the day. Spent the evening in Lacomar.
