Just a quick one this time.

Currently in Pisco - it´s a bit of a strange town. They had an earthquake last August and the town is in a pretty bad state of repair. There are so many buildings still not rebuilt and so many poor people around. Quite an eye opener. After studying so many earthquakes at uni to actually see the impacts of one is pretty interesting. The town looks very dusty and brown and there´s hardly any colour to it anywhere. Lots of buildings with the sides missing and some repairs going on. It must be hard living here.

We´ve just been drinking the local drink - Pisco Sour - which is pretty lethal stuff. Made with pisco, lime juice, some sort of sugar water and egg whites all whizzed up in a blender. Very tasty but dangerous too-so apologies for my typing!

We spent a day in Lima a couple of days ago. It´s such a massive city in comparison to all the other places we´ve been in Peru. Great place for shopping and going out etc. We ended up in a casino for a little while but couldn´t spend any money as there were no slot machines free. Shame - at least we tried!!

The roads are a lot better in Peru although the size of the buses we´re travelling in (when private buses) are tiny. Feel like sardines in a tin!!

Although we had a very posh bus from Trujillo to Lima - first class (of course). We even got two meals served including hot tea or coffee which is a bit dangerous on a bus when it´s served in a plastic cup without a lid and on a bumpy road - made us laugh anyway!!

The journey to Lima was interesting. We were in the bus for about 10 hours and most of that was across a vast expanse of desert. It is sooooo dry in Peru. We were driving alongside the coast for some time but it was still incredibly dry. And there are some buildings along the way which I assume people live in although living in such barren landscape must be incredibly hard.

No photos this time I´m afraid - don´t have my camera with me.

Better sign off - heading for Nazca and then on to the Inca Trail so will write more soon
