I really enjoyed Cusco. The city is 3400m above sea level, but I coped fine with the altitude for the first day. The next day was a different story, constantly breathless, nauseous and tired. The Inca ruins are incredible, as are the Spanish buildings, often built right on top of the Inca ones. The Spanish tried to remove any evidence of the religious use of Inca sites, but the Inca buildings, with their incredibly crafted masonry have survived the frequent earthquakes while the Spanish buildings that were held together with mortar, crumbled. The city is very touristy, but the setting is beautiful. The hotel is an amazing, old building with a beautiful central courtyard.

The Quecha stonemasons didn't use mortar but ground blocks of solid granite until they got a perfect fit. Pegs and holes strengthened the structure while grooves between blocks were filled with bronze. (Inca refers only to royalty, the Incas ruled over the Quecha people.)

Looks like Pisac, but I'm not sure.
