Day 1. 23 hours travel starting at 2.30 a.m. Bed in utter luxury in
Swissotel Lima.
Day 2. Getting things sorted out.Swimming and relaxing. Lunch at a
fantastiic restaurant hanging over the Pacific with exotic (and totally
unknown) terns nesting under us. Scallops and Sea bass to die for!
Day 3. Air conditioned tour of Lima. Islands of ancient culture and
beautiful ¡§colonial¡¨ architecture in an ever increasing sprall of half
finnished new expansion. Met Sara-Lee and Howard who will be doing the
whole trip with us.
Day 4. Early flight (one hour) to Cousco. Monasterio Hotel in ancient
monastery on previous Inca site.
Masses of Coca Tea and two Hour's rest to get used to the altitude.
Afternoon tour of the town with a guide (of Inca descent) called Ernesco.
University trained (animal husbandry) and one of the most civilised people
we have ever met. Incas come from nature, live in a paradise of harmony
with nature and return after death as part of the energies of nature.
Drove over into another valley where there was a Llama and Alpaca farm
where we bought a lovely sweater. Cousco cathedral is huge. Built over an
Inca palace and with quantities of suberb Cedar wood carvings.
Day 5. Machu Pichu. Bus to the Orient express ¡V Hirham Bingham ¡V who
found M.P. a few years ago. Greeted with champagne and Inca dancers. Lunch
going down the secret valley where Incas farmed until the Spanish came in
thefifteenth century. Cows sheep and pigs with Ibis nand Cattel Egrets.
Bus to M.P. down narrow canyons and up an almost vertical hillside. Cream
tea and four course meal on our climb back to Cousco.
Day 6. Air- Bus back to Lima and bus to boat and cabin ¡§nine-eleven¡¨.
Prawn Lunch on deck the ¡§boat drill¡¨ and sleep to recover.
Day 7. The Birthday. Long Morning Tour ton Tourjillo and the Moche
temples of the Moon (female) and Sun. Moche empire from B.C. to 600 A.D.
Conquered tribes were ritually slaughtered with their blood collected and
drunk to give all their power to the Moche conquereres. Home to find
Champagne from Mark and Andrea and Champagne and a cake from the captain
and for a party in the cabin for our new American friends. Superb end to
the day with a quiet dinner for two.
