Day 1: 12 kms. Km 82 (2600 metres above sea level) to Wayllabamba (3100m) Our Inca trail began at 6 am (without Evans, who did a different trek) when we were picked up from our hostel and almost ended half an hour later, when our bus broke down. I don´t think there was much car knowledge amongst our crew, as they seemed to think throwing buckets of cold water at the bus was a good solution. For... Read Full Entry

We gained a friend at Machu Picchu - he decided he´d follow our group around and listen to all the talks. We punished him by making him take our group photos - 16 times!!

hi jay, we went with peru treks. they were really good. highly recommend them, but you have to book well (months maybe) in advance. think it was roughly US$500, give or take. we didn't take too much - just sleeping bag and change of clothes. they carry your tent for you, and you can hire a porter to carry your bag if you want, or just carry it yourself. had plenty of water, they provide it, and massive amounts of food. a few people stayed on the next day, but mainly just hanging around aguas caliente (the town), rather than climbing WP. apparently if you try and ask around 10.30/11ish (after you've done the trek) you can climb it, because not everyone uses their tickets. that's about it. brigid
