I originally wrote an entry for this part which was about 8000 words so have decided to apply a bit more discipline and try and condense our thoughts. So here, in abbreviated form, are some of the highlights and lowlights of the Inca Trail (which was an unbelievable experience by the - in case that gets lost in translation!)

Highlights

* Machu Picchu - bigger, better, more beautiful than any photo.
* Our "Trek Mates" Cathy and Mike from Jersey - great pace and heaps of fantastic stories.
* The porters - for shlepping all our stuff and the camping / cooking equipment for four days and making it look so easy.
* Camping - see above plus, Cathy and Mike provided extra expertise and Mario cooked all our food - isn´t camping always like this?
* The Scenery - spectacular!
* Walking - some ups and downs (literally) but definitely a hobby worth continuing.
* Small group - just us four, nice and cosy.
* Finishing it - and enjoying the smugness attached.
*Clearing Fog - after twenty minutes on the last morning it revealed the big MP in all it´s glory.

Lowlights

* Cats and Dogs - It rained... quite a lot.
* Technology - Nige´s camera ran out of battery on the first evening - blimmin altitude.. fortunately Mike rescued us by lending us his, thanks Mike.
* Steps - living, breathing, sleeping and dreaming them.
* Smell - we did, the toilets did, even some of the ruins did, but it didn´t matter (unless you sat next to us on the return train - sorry Mike and Nicole Nelson for that!).

So there you go, probably doesn´t do it justice but it really was totally amazing.

Will send next blog from Puno...

Hasta Luego

Lots of love

Louise and Nige
