Finally, after a couple weeks of hard work on the applications, I was able to make it out to sightsee a bit. Set high in the mountains, Cusco really is a beautiful place, and a bit cleaner than other areas of Peru. One site is Santo Domingo Monastery/Convent. It was built by the Dominicans on top of the Inca´s most important temple. Inside, there are walls clearly built by the Incas in a style evident throughout Cusco, with intricately carved stones snuggly fit together. But most of it is built in a Spanish style.

San Pedro Market is populated mostly by men and women from Cusco doing their daily shopping. You can find almost anything there - fruits, vegetables, baskets, dressmakers, tourist items, shampoo, and raw meat. This is the market which almost made a vegetarian out of me. One interesting memory involves a huge pyramid of pig heads, set out as a display to attract potential buyers. I personally did not buy any pork that day.

I´ve included a photo of the little boys who dress up in traditional costumes and hold incredibly cute little animals, making money by posing for photographers - well suckers - like me I suppose.

The boys usually don´t wear the ponchos and hats tied beneath their chins. And they normally don´t carry puppies either!

Not usually a good idea to get the camera out at the bus station. Just this once!
