On our last day in Peru, we took a morning trip out to the Palomino Islands. It was similar wildlife to the Ballestas Islands, but we got to jump in the water and swim with the sea lions! It was very cold and salty, but the sea lions came right up near us for probably twenty minutes and flipped and splashed us. It was really exciting to get that close and see them so well, and well worth the extra trip. We also saw more penguins, pelicans, and Peruvian boobies. I really enjoyed seeing the Paracas region and climate, but it was a lot more fun getting to swim with the sea lions instead of just looking at them.

Here is a website with some pictures of what we got to do and other islands we saw, including one with an old jail where th apparently play paintball now.

Lots of fun! A great last day, although we´re now absolutely exhausted and will probably sleep the whole way home back to the States. We have a taxi set up at 4 AM for tomorrow and will be headed back soon!
