First Band
They were pretty good, but the second band was my favourite. Hello everyone,
It´s Sunday again and I now have less than 2 weeks left in Ayacucho. I have very mixed feelings about it all. I´m really looking forward to travelling and then to seeing my mum and my family in America, but I´ll really miss Ayacucho and the friends I´ve made here.
Wendy headed off today for a week of travelling on a pre booked tour. Will miss her this week. She has also lately taken to treating Vicki and I to pastries from one of the local shops which I´ll miss too!!
My new roommate arrived this morning - not Theresa as I was expecting, but a lovely young American medical student called Caitlin. Theresa has also arrived, a lovely American lady from Colorado who was skiing only 2 days before she came here - I was sooooo jealous. We are expecting Susan who has already been on the LIma programme to arrive tomorrow, and we now also have Adam, another young American.
Spent most of the morning up on the roof reading as I was waiting for my washing to finish. It also gave Caitlin some peace in our room and let her catch up
Second Band
The pan pipe/keno player at the far right as you look at the photo was absolutely incredible!! on some sleep. Vicki and I then wandered down to the prison market just before lunch.
After lunch we planned to go to a music festival which was advertised as starting at 1pm at a cost of 10 soles (approx 2 pounds). The group who went was Vicki, Theresa, Caitlin and I. We arrived around 1.30pm to find that they were still setting up, so headed for the nearest cafe where we introduced Theresa and Caitlin to the wonders of Inka Cola!! After this Caitlin headed home as she wasn´t feeling too great.
We headed back around 2.30pm to find them still setting up. Asked when it was due to kick off and was told 4pm!!
Took a moto taxi to Gringo Plaza where I had the most amazing mago milkshake. Almost on a par with Beanscene smoothies, but not quite!!
Arrived back at the Colliseo around 4.30pm to find the concert had started. It cost us 5 soles to get in (one pound). Not bad for Peru - started three hours later than advertised and cost us half the advertised entry fee!!
Think that the concert was in aid of the Ayacucho credit union.
Pipe/Keno player
Like I said, he was a great musician and also pretty dishy too!! The bands playing were predominantly from Ayacucho and were very good!! The stage was outdoors and the backdrop was the Andes - pretty incredible if you ask me!!
The bands were mainly guitars, drums, pan pipes, and the keno (an instrument a bit like the recorder, but with much more depth). There were Spanish vocals too. The music was great and I´ve attached photos of a couple of the bands. The only frustrating thing was that there was some sort of compere there who, as soon as the vocalist stopped singing and the pipes/keno player picked up his instrument, immediately started shouting commentary over the top of the music. I was sooooooo annoyed, as the pipes/kena are the closest you can get to the flute over here, and ultimately my favourite part of the show!! Was so annoyed I chewed Vicki´s ear about it a fair bit.
Concert was mainly attended by locals, and we were the only Gringas there. At one point we spotted a semi official looking photographer taking our photos, so goodness only knows where we´ll end up in print!! We also had a number of kids come over and chat to us which was
Traditional Pervian Lady
This lady was selling sweets and popcorn to the crowds at the concert. nice.
Whilst there we bumped into Alejandro, who works with CCS in Ayacucho. He was there with his family.
Headed back to base shortly before dinner where I enjoyed a nice hot shower before dinner. We were all pretty tired after dinner, so I just chilled in my room with my book and (here comes the confession!!) I ate my Galaxy!! Irn Bru still intact though which isn´t bad going.
Actually very proud of myself as my ability to keep chocolate for later at home is absolutely zilch!! Vicki still has hers and maintains she will save it for Christmas Day. She has promised to send me a dated photo of her enjoying it. Mine lasted the grand total of five days!! Still also have a packet of Polos which were included in the parcel.
All in all, was a very realxing Sunday which was nice. Good company, good food (Galaxy) and great music - what more could a girl want??!!
The concert was almost on a par with McFly, Coldplay, Keane and the Beach Boys - the best concerts I´ve been to this year. Sorry Andrew - Aussie Pink Floyd just isn´t up there for me!!
Anyway - take care everyone. You´ll only have another three weeks of my rambling blogs before I head of to the USA to see my family
Caio for now
