Angels in Progress
From the left: Julia, Giovani, Ernesto, Karina, Maria and Anna´s shoulder (in pink)! Hi Folks,
Hope that you all had a good laugh at the congo photos!! The local folks certainly did!! Wendy was telling us at lunch today that the student teacher in the school she volunteers at had been up in the balcony in the square. Guess the "Gringas" are infamous now!!
Was at Wawa Wasi today and had a great day, although couldn´t get any reply at the door when I arrived. Could see the kids (Anna, Rufina and Andrea) were all in the garden. Karina also arrived as I stood there for maybe 10mins. Julia finally turned up - she had gone to the shops and left the kids unsupervised. Second time this has happened in the 6 weeks I´ve worked there. She often disappears off on an errand when I´m there. Wonder what she does when I´m not??
When in town yesterday, I managed to buy Julia a rubber mat for the entrance to the WW room - she had previously used a pretty grubby towel on which the kids wiped their shoes. The same towel was also used to wipe up any accidents and spillages on the concrete WW floor!! She was really chuffed with
Angels still in progress
From left: Julia, Giovani, Ernesto, Rufina, Karina and Andrea (in green top!). the mat and put it straight down.
Figured out how to make macrame pom poms (two big massive nails in a wooden chopping board - talk about improvising!!) and took them along for the kids today. I strung the pom poms on elastic and the kids had a great time with them. We also made the paper angels which turned out great!!
The best part of the day was shortly before the end. We put on the music and the kids were dancing about waving the pom poms and also the shakers I had made with them the other day. Lots of photos attached - I really got a kick out of seeing them have so much fun!!
Julia presented me with a beautiful bag as a gift from herself and the WW kids. Was a bit confused as I´ll be there tomorrow, but it was a lovely thought!! It´s typical of the local Ayacucho style - photo attached.
Left WW 10mins before the end and headed next door to Marruja´s. It was Eileen´s last day there today as she leaves Ayacucho tomorrow. I went in to take some photos of Eileen with Marruja and the
WW ninos. Eileen was pretty upset leaving them - I´ll be in that boat tomorrow!! It will be tough - so easy to get attached!!
After WW, had lunch at base and then headed into town. Wanted to get all the photos of the WW kids printed in colour from my camera. Will take them tomorrow so they can make a big frieze of them, and see all the photos they have enjoyed posing for. It cost me the grand total of 94 soles 50 cents (almost 19 pounds) for 63 photos in total, but will be well worth it. Works out at less than two pounds per nino after all!!
Hope that you enjoy today´s photos - they are some of my favourites.
Did some shopping and then headed home to a reasonably warm shower, but not hot enough to raise any steam!! We headed out for dinner at around 7pm as Eileen is leaving tomorrow. We went to a bar in town called Black Magic (think it´s something like Magica Negro in Spanish) where the pizza and pasta was highly recommended. This was our bon voyage night for Eileen who was leaving today.
Had
Movers and Shakers!!
From the left: Elias, Ernesto, Rufina, Andrea (in action) and Giovani in front. Hope you can make out the pompoms!! a great night, and lots of photos attached to vouch for it!! Headed out to the photo shop for 5mins at 9pm to collect my prints. They were great!! Showed off the WW kids to all the others, and I´m sure the kids will enjoy the photos too!! The photo´s I´d taken of Eileen and her ninos were also great. I´ve e-mailed them to Eileen and will hand the prints into Marruja tomorrow.
We stopped off for another beer at the bar next to the house on the way home (Ilona, Vicki, Caroline and I). We ordered three beers (Cristals) but they were in massive bottles!! Caroline had had enough, so Ilona, Vicki and I split two bottles between the three of us, and decided to take the last one away as a carry out. When we were finished, we asked the guy for the bill, and he wasn´t forthcoming!! I finally went up to the bar, asked how much we owed and payed for it. I then put the remaining bottle of beer into my bag to take away and we left the bar.
We were wandering the short distance back to base - and you know
More Movers and Shakers!!
From the left: Elias, Ernesto, Rufina and Andrea (under the sink!), Karina, Anna and Giovani in front. how you get the feeling that you´re being followed?? Vicki and I turned around to spot the waiter from the bar following us up the road with a huge grin on his face!! Using Spanglish, we established that as we´d taken the bottle away, we would have to pay him the value of the refund he would get on the empty bottle!! What a laugh!! 2 soles later we had paid our debt and could head home!!
Eileen didn´t join us at the last bar as she had a 5am start. Hope that you have a great time travelling Eileen - we´ll miss you!!
Got home to discover that the teenagers were having a raucous game of cards up on the roof, but I was so tired I fell asleep straight away and slept right through with no interruptions - amazing!!
Anyway - that´s all for today - enjoy the photos!!
Manuela - glad you are enjoying the diary. We all miss you. Need you here to sort out the youngsters. Re the career change - always open to suggestions!! Have really enjoyed writing the blog, and if it means I´d get to travel and see
And more...............
From left back: Karina, Elias and Giovani. Left middle: Rufina, Anna and Andrea. Ernesto is cut off on the right. At this point we were dancing with pompoms and shakers!! more of the world - well.............who knows!! Take care and keep in touch!!

So glad our wee Govan angel was such a success with your Ayacoucho angels. Looks like they had a ball. Glad to be of help. See soon.
