Elias asleep
Elias asleep - a very rare occurrence! Karina squeezed in at the end of the photo. Hola mes amigos!!
Was planning a nice quiet Monday after my hectic day yesterday. That was not to be!! It´s so true when they say that children are unpredictable!!
Was at Wawa Wasi today. Still no sign of Alberto, and Ernesto and Maria didn´t show either!! Went equipped today with balloons, paper plates, cardboard and some special clips.
Soon after I arrived, we had a new arrival. A baby boy called William. Not quite sure of his age as he´s quite small, but he can walk and has teeth. I reckon just under a year (I´m such an expert with kids I hear you all say...........!!).
William cried from the moment his mama left, and there was absolutely no consoling him!! When you put him down, he wanted a cuddle and when you gave him a cuddle he wanted down. He was not in the least bit interested in the other kids or the toys! He cried so hard his chest and throat must have been sore!! Rufina came out in sympathy and soone we had a bout of stereo crying so loud, that Eileen (the volunteer in the WW next door) heard it!!
Finally William
Karina
She´s still so shy - won´t even smile for the camera! cried himself to sleep, and I played with the balloons with the other kids. We used the plates to make clocks, which they coloured, and I attached cardboard hands with the special clips I found. They went down a rare treat - the kids loved them.
Then - disaster!! A ballon was burst and William woke up again. Yet another bout of stereo crying!! He was inconsolable!! In the meantime Giovani fell asleep (unusual for him - he´s normally so boisterous!!). Julia sat with William this time and I had all the kids tiptoeing around pretending to be mice and going ´Ssshhhhh´ with their fingers at their lips!!
Next excitement was that Julia´s doorbell rang - she went to answer it abandoning William and resulting in another flood of tears!! My turn with him this time.......!! He settled fairly quickly, but only when I let him have a quick grope underneath my T shirt - so much for keeping away from all those young Peruvian men!!
All was later explained when his mama arrived at lunchtime - he´s still breastfeeding!!
At one point it was clear that Rufina needed ´pesche´ (toilet), so I decided to try
her in the outside toilet at Julia´s which is a proper loo, although missing a toilet seat. She screamed blue murder!! Evidently not used to having a loo at home, so we did the usual and watered the garden. Rufina isn´t great with her aim as yet, so it resulted in a change of ´pantalons´ after. Pantalons are knitted trousers which the young kids all wear, even under dresses, as they have no nappies. Holding any of them in your lap for any length of time is therefore a risk you take, hence the reason I have a large packet of washing powder at homebase!!
Took some more photos of the kids for you today - hope you like them.
Anyway - that ended an interesting morning!! Went back to base where Vicki and I agreed with CCS that we´ll take the week of 11 December off to go travelling. Will work double hours at placements the week before so that the charity doesn´t suffer. Now have a travelling trip to plan - 8 days in total as I need to be back in Lima on 18 December for my flight to the States. All very exciting!!
Peek a boo with Rufina
She´s actually sitting under the sink which is in the back garden. This is the only water tap (cold)in Julia´s house. Spending an hour here and then plan a trip into town for some more Wawa Wasi resources for tomorrow. Thinking about making some musical instruments and trying to teach them how to keep the beat. Also saw some space hoppers in one of the stores. I loved those when I was a kid!!
Have a Spanish lesson at 6. Seriously need to do some more studying. Understand the structure of the language - the problem I have is remembering all the verbs and nouns.
Trying to contact Pancho, our Peruvian friend, in the hope of organising a trip to see the Nazcar lines either this weekend or next. Will be fun.
Anyway - thanks for all your feedback on the diary. Glad you´re enjoying it. The e-mails are also great - it´s nice to be in the loop with what´s happening at home.
Take care all and keep in touch!!

Audit Reporting
Good to see that your commentary is as long winded and as incomprehensible as your audit reports! Just joking - honest. Glad that you have settled in. Must be just like downtown Govan especially as you have now got a kid called Billy (William) in tow. All the best. David.
