Well helloooo there!
The whole point in this entry was to put some pictures up but have now been on this computer for an hour and 37 minutes exactly and still no luck!! so im sorry but u´ll just have to wait all those that keep asking lol! will try and steal some of helens tho...
Where did i finish? Thursday i think... On Friday, Alegria was closed for teacher training or something so I went to Casa Cuna all day rather than sitting around doing nothing. The three of us at Casa Cuna have been split up into different groups so it´s quite annoying not being able to speak english for so long! Really like my group though, they´re a teeny bit older, im guessing around 3, so thankfully they´re not speaking too much and you can get away with just a nod and smile!! all SO cute though, beatiful dark hair, clear olive skin, and the hugest saddest chocolate brown eyes you´ve ever seen, ive yet to see a Paraguayan child that isn´t adorable! will HAVE to get pics up soon! Anyways, the day passed pretty much like any day at nursery, learning about vehicles woohoo! The
kids actually sleep for hours and hours and hours in the middle of the day so we get a decent lunchbreak, just wish we could enjoy the sun but its TOO hot, and this is still winter.
Got to phone home on friday night, the phone lines are a lot clearer than i was expecting, just mega expensive!!! oh and for everyone thats asking about my fone, my usual number isn´t getting any signal at the moment, ive bought a new phone to use in paraguay, but i dont think it can contact the uk. we´ve been told orange network has the best chance though, anyone orange?? Next time i phone im gonna write everything down tho cos i keep forgetting to tell folk what i want to!!
Then it came to our first weekend yey! we were really needing it even though we´d only worked two days, lol. Finding our way around this city is soooo hard, got lost so many times!! Im getting good with my map though, tend to be walking a lot so it´s getting easier. We went shopping on Saturday, to Mariscal Lopez Shopping Centre, omg it was like we were in another country!! The shopping centre is SO westernised, lots of shops obviously, even a McDonalds hehe! Don´t think ive ever got so excited about an ice cream before, had an OREO mcflurry mmmmmmmm finest thing ever haha!!! The prices are obviously cheaper, the most up-market shops are around River Island prices i guess, though my jeans from an expensive looking shop were 9 pound 90!! (sorry no pound sign :P) Also found a great wee shop, similar to Claires, but where you can buy the most random things, nostril hair shapers, eyebrow razors and red prostitute nails included - woohoo!!! With all these notes it feels like im spending a fortune, for my shoes which cost 8 pound 80 i used TWENTY THREE notes haha!!!!
Had an amazingly exciting saturday night staying in the house haha. Was knackered though, don´t know what´s the matter with me, you know what im usually like!! There´s no way the three of us would have gone out by ourselves after all the warnings that we´ve been given, next week i think we´re gonna go out with some of the older english teachers at the anglo. Chrissie (the daughter) and her boyfriend also invited me out, don´t really wanna go out with a couple though!! Apparently there´s a good nightlife here though, especially the Britannia pub, just a matter of safety i guess though.
On Sunday we eventually found the cinema, thankfully most films are in English with Spanish subtitles! It was good to watch a nice easy film (and actually hear people speaking in english!!) but really made us think of home, 😞
I´m becoming good friends with the two girls that are in the city aswell, which is great cos i don´t think we could cope on our own. Haven´t heard much from the two in the next village though!!
Oh forgot to say, guess what i went to on sunday night?! a classical concert haha!!!! It was to celebrate the shopping centre´s 11th birthday, randomness! had to leave before half time though, twas really dull and to be honest the music school are better in my opinion!!! teehee. had a bit of a nightmare before it started, had to save seats for danielle´s mum Fanny who has to be one of the strangest women ever, well she went home and just left us for over an hour, got shouted at by so many scary spanish people i was terrified!!
Monday was just an average day at work, im getting more confident with the kids and with my spanish so it´s getting better every day. Spent some time with the older kids in Alegria, it was interesting, but to be honest i like the younger ones much better!!
The weather has been SO hot already, and it´s still winter. Don´t know about today but apparently yesterday was 39 degrees eek!! wish it was a nice heat so we could enjoy the sun (maybe even get a tan :P) but its too hot to enjoy it, its sooooo humid. Also working during the hottest times of the day so i think the tan might take a while!! (don´t worry i´ll try and beat the nig nog by january :P teehee)
Starting to get used to the city a wee bit more now, they have the most random names for streets (lots of 22nd of Septembers and 4th of Mays), there seems to be an optical shop on every single corner and you can literally do your weekly shop when you´re stopped at traffic lights - anything from oranges (lots of!!) to chopping boards - today i got a juggling show. It´s great to see wee touches that remind you of home, like the Simpsons (in spanish of course), the ice cream manny having a nestle sign (as he trundles his wee cart, on foot, to join the traffic) and being in our first cafe, which was playing paraguayan music, all of a sudden playing Fields of Gold. oh and pizza hut hehe!
Well i think that´s me exhausted most of my news for just now, thanks for all the emails, i love reading everyones news! Really wanna show you some pictures so ill try my best to make it work, they´ll probably make it on to bebo first. Miss you all so much!
Love, love and more love,
Me xXxXx
