So we´ve settled into a cute little house in Guaranda. $150 per month including utilities. It´s a quick 10 min bus ride from the city and I´m really enjoying the fresh air. Unfortunately it sounds like a family of rats of mice moved into the roof last night, so it may become less pleasant as time goes on.
Guaranda is a small city, about 20 thousand people, and absolutely no one speaks English. It´s a little more expensive than Quito for most things, calling home is now 25 cents a minute (as opposed to 7) and laundry is 60 cents a lb (as opposed to 70 a kilo) but it´s still fairly cheap.
We head out to the first community (Canduya) Monday and will be without a phone or computer till Friday. I´ll try to post a BIG update then on how everything is progressing.
I´ve finished translating my personal hygene workshop and we´re going to practice it tonight and tomorrow. The contraceptives workshop is coming along too, but I put it on hold since we´ll be workign with children all next week so the child-oriented workshops are more of a priority right now. Vashti and nancy spent last night making big posters of the male and female reproductive organs and they did an amazing job, I´ll post pictures later.
I´ll try to attach some pictures form Quito to this entry, but no guarantees.
