Los Frailes is labeled one of the nicest beaches on the western coast of South America and is located in Machalilla National Park. The entrace is a few miles south of Puerto Lopez and costs $3 to enter the park. We took the 2.5 hour hike which was pretty cool. Tons of lookouts along the way with great views of the ocean, beaches, mountains and towns. Due to the rain and clouds we couldn´t see as much as you usually can but we could still see a lot.
Once we got to the beach the rain really picked up so we weren´t there for long but it was a really nice beach and on a sunny day definitely seems like an awesome place to hang out. We took a mototaxi from the beach back out to the road to catch the bus back. Alvise, as he seems to always be able to do, convinced them to let him drive the mototaxi. After 3-4 stalls trying to start it, crashing into a sand bank on the side of the road, and stalling halfway there we finally made it to the entrance.
Really cool place to go hike and get views
of the surrounding but definitely would have been much better on a sunny day!
