Today was an awesome day. First of all was a teaching from Pastor Fredy on Acts 8:26-40, when Phillip meets the enuch who is reading the book of Isaiah, even though he does not understand it. In verse 36 it says "Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” After the Spanish service a group of us drove to Gualaceo to where the Paute River is lower and slower and had a Baptism Service with the help of the pastor and members of Calvary Chapel Gualaceo. There were eight members of our church, all Ecuadorian, that professed a desire to be Baptised. What a tremendous opportunity for us Gringos to join them in their profession of faith. Almost every November in the States, since we gave our lives to Christ, we prepared shoe boxes filled with various items for children in third world countries that were collected by our church and then sent to Samaritan’s Purse. Samaritan's Purse is an evangelical Christian humanitarian organization that provides aid to people in physical need as a key part of Christian missionary work. The organization’s president is Franklin Graham, son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham. The name of the organization is based on the New Testament Parable of the Good Samaritan, in which Jesus uses a parable to teach people one form of the Golden Rule; "love your neighbor as yourself". Tonight we went out to dinner at a new Italian restuarant. We took our usual #5 bus and about half way there it took a turn that we had never taken before. It went quite a way from the normal route, and at one point we decided to get off and walk. The normal walk from the stop we usually get off at is about a quarter of a kilometer. When we got off the bus, it was close to a kilometer walk. Oh well, it helped us build up our appetite. After dinner we walked along the river. In early December the city puts up a number of decorations along the river that are lit at night. Then they put up a huge Nativity scene at the Otorongo Plaza. On Sunday we held a combined Spanish and English Service and invited the congregations from Calvary Chapel Gualaceo and Calvary Chapel Troncal. After the service there was a large free luncheon for everyone. Then on Monday night, Debi and I and two other Gringos were invited to dine with all of the elders and their families. Quite an honor.... read more
