After arriving in Banos on the first night we met up with Mark who stayed with us in Cotopaxi. He is with a large group from all over the place so we had a couple of beers with them and also Richard and Tom from the UK. We were quite tired that night due to travelling from Cotopaxi so took it handy enough before heading to bed.
The next morning we had a big day planned. We started at 8am with a large breakfast in our hostel. Once the belly was filled we made our way to the agency across the road to rent mountain bikes for 5dollars per day, not bad eh?!! There is a brilliant cycle to do from Banos to a place near the jungle called Puyo which is 60km away. The cycle itself takes you past many beautiful waterfalls and the fun thing about the cycle is that 80% of it is downhill 😊 We stopped at a few different towns along the way to get some fluids in and out and kept going to a town called Rio Negro just before Puyo. We waited around 5minutes for a bus which loaded our bikes to the roof
and we made our speedy way back to Banos. On our arrival we bumped into Richard and Tom and decided to have lunch with them before they made there departure for Peru. We had spent nearly a week travelling with them and was really good fun so was sad to see them leaving. After lunch we spent a bit of time on the net and made a few calls before heading towards the Hot Spring baths. Because Banos is located on a very active Volcano they have Hot SPrings all over the place. It was really nice when we could eventually get in but the water was over 40degrees so it was hard to manage it. Agan we had a couple of drinks that night with the rest in our Hostel and headed off to bed as we knew we would be getting a bus the next morning.
At around 10am the next day we made our way to the bus bound for Riobamba. I was really expecting something amazing from Riobamba as the name sounds brilliant but once inspected it was rather dull. Although I did end up finally byuing a new digital camera as my one had gone
Banos
On the canopy ride bust back in Brazil!! After I bought my new toy we went out for dinner in local restaraunt where it cost us $4 each for a steak and chips. The restaraunt was dead as too was the streets so we made an executive decision to leave the following morning.
Thursday morning arrived and we left our cosy little hostel in Riobamba and jumped on a bus for Cuenca which is the third largest city in Ecuador. We met a couple from London on the bus, Martin and Amy and decided to travel together to the same hostel which is no longer in service but has been replaced to a new hostel called Hostel Majestic. Most of the roooms are really nice with TVs and En Suite bathrooms but we decided to opt for the $5 dollar a night room which is accompanied by a tiny chair and a bad smell but the price cant be beat! The four of us went for dinner together and found a nice bar/restaraunt after half an hour of getting lost around the city. After a few beers we went back to the hostel for a good nights kip.
This morning Anne and I had
a tour of the city a found some old Inca ruins and a new case for my camera. The city itself seems very nice and colonial and as with most cities here it holds a huge catherdral.
Tomorrow we plan to make our way towards some beach time in Peru so will probably spend most of the day travelling by bus and through the border!
