Dina
great hat, no? Hello! I just realized that none of yall know anyone that Im with..so this is a page of introductions and whatnot then i am going to add pictures because i have dinner soon.
Katie: Katie is this really cool girl who is just amazing and great (she is sitting next to me right now, i have to write good things). No but really she is funny and is the cofounder of this organization that is the reason im even here! She goes to Swarthmore College and is going to be a senior. She is a Harry S Truman scholar, which I guess is a big deal, but right now she has to write a 1000 plus words essay that is due tomorrow, so i dont know how happy she is about it haha. Also so went to Oxford for a year or something like that so that is cool. KAtie is grouped with Liz and Alex.
Christopher: Christopher is an English teacher for 10th graders in Asheville. His mom is the one that created the Echo foundation, which is how i found out about Katie. He doesn{t know any spanish, but is learning really fast and his teaching skills
Katie
With the parrot, Monkey are really helping out. He too is pretty cool. Honestly, I like every one here. You would think that if you got a group of people together, some people would just clash..but no, i really do like everyone so i{m not going to repeat this frase any more because it automatically goes for everybody "___ is really cool and fun." okay, glad we got that down. Oh, and Christopher is grouped with Dina
Teresa: Teresa also goes to Swarthmore and is going to be a senior next year as well. Her technical name is "Education coordinator" and is kind of a big deal. haha. Her spanish is excellent and she is grouped with Sarah for schools. She has THE funniest habbit of shaking her head and finger in the "no no" fashion if she thinks that whatever is being discussed is bad or weird or whatever...sooo funny we all make fun of her for it. Haha.
Allison: Allison just graduated from Washington University as a Bio major. She knows spanish because she spent a semester in Costa Rica and probly took classes i don{t really know. She was actually a surprise...because we werent expecting her. We were at
the hostal on Monday morning right before the first day of school and Gilberto (the guy that owns the hostel and is part of the foundation) was like, oh this is Allison, she is going to help yall (but of course, in spanish). So she is in my group with Daylin also..which i am very glad about because if she wasnt my spanish would have had to lead me and Daylin (who knows only basic spanish, although is learning it fast). So yay for Allison here!
Dina: Dina is about to be a sophmore at Fordum, someplace in New York. She is soooo cool. Her life story is AMAZING. Her dad is a UN Ambassador..so she has travelled everywhere. She was born in Chad, lived in France a while, and is fluent in French, and also lived in Kenya for a while, and knows Arabic. And of course, knows spanish. Is that not freaking awesome for a 19 year old?? Besides that she is really hot at dancing the Salsa.. i{m not gunna lie. She is partnered with Christopher.
Daylin: Daylin is from Hawaii (said Ha wa-ee) and has lived there all her life until college. She and
Dina are friends from their freshman year of college and i cant remember what college that is. I think she knows Hawaiian, or at least some, which i think is so cool. She is soo funny as well, and is grouped with me. She wants to major in Eduation so this is really great for her. Also, she and Dina are staying an extra 2 weeks longer than any of the rest of us. She has only taken i think one semester of spanish but here is taking classes in the morning, so i really admire her determination to learn the language. She is doing quite well and can understand a lot of what is being spoken, even though speaking it is a lot harder (which is true, i think). And like i said, she is in my (aka the best) group!
Alex: Alex is cousins with Christopher meaning her aunt is the one with all the Echo stuff. She has taken some years of spanish in school and knows it very well. Alex lives really in Massachusettes bc she goes to boarding school!! How cool is that? and no, they dont beat the kids there, and it wasnt
for a punishment! Haha. Ok..Alex is one of the funniest people I have ever met. She has odd control over her head, meaning she can wiggle her ears, move her scalp and cross just one eye and makes THE WEIRDEST faces you have ever seen....and not only that but she can make strangely accurate immitations of animals. So not only is she just hilarious in every thing she says, but Elizabeth, Sarah, Alex and I have actually had some pretty deep conversations about life and what not, so that is pretty cool. Alex is grouped with Elizabeth and Katie. oh and she is going to be a senior in high school like me and liz and sarah next year.
Elizabeth: Elizabeth goes to my school in NC and so that is how i already knew her. She has done about 3 years of spanish i think. She is smart and really athletic...waking up before 7 each day to run (more power to her...but you wont see me with her). She has been thinking about maybe going to college to be a teacher so this is really good for her to have all this practice...if she can do this in a foreign language, then teaching in English should be a peice of cake! Haha. Liz is a really determined person and i think she is really enjoying herself. She is grouped with Katie and Alex.
Sarah: Sarah is also a good friend of mine from school. Honestly, I hate her. No just kidding, Sarah is probably the nicest person you could ever meet...And her nice isnt a fake nice, it is really genuine and kind and thats why i love her so much! She is also extremely intelligent and i know she will have all the colleges fighting to have her at their school. I think this trip is really great for sarah because she can get along with everyone and that is really good for dealing with kids, because she is so slow to get angry. She has been taking Spanish for about 2 years, her real love is French, and she is realy good at it..it{s a very difficult language, i think. Sarah is grouped with Teresa.
Okay, well that is everyone! Except for me...so I am Laura and I am pretty much the best there ever was. Ha, but really I love spanish and i love kids and i am really having fun. Im going to be a senior next year and like every other high school senior on this trip, i have no idea where i{m going to school...we{ll see.
Well Chau for now! ill try and add pictures later but the internect connection right now is really slow, so you can connect names with faces.
xoxo
Laura
