Sarah and I at breakfast
Breakfast here is amazing. I could live off of just their breakfast!! Hey everyone, it's Wednesday morning but I am going to write about yesterday because I didn't have access to the internet for very long last night, as well as the capability to hook up the camera to the computer, which i think i figured out!
Okay, so Monday night we got our luggage!!! YAY! It was really late at night, and Christopher and Katie had to go out to the airport (which takes about 2 ish hours) and once they got there, they had to wait, etc. but finally at about 12:30 they arrived!! It was so exciting. So, I no longer have to wear the same clothes..I have a choice!
Along with getting the luggage, they also got our boxes that had all of the materials for the kids. We have, it seems like, thousands and thousands of pencils and paper and crayons and notebooks. It was so exciting for me to just open the boxes that I couldn't wait to give them to the children. So we sorted through everything and divied everything up and left for school at the normal time, 1:30 (it starts at 2 and goes till 5).
Well at first we have just
Pedro and Alex
Pedro likes to take picures! a few kids. I decided to have every kid write their name down and age, and then i took a picture of them in that order, so that I can study their pictures so I will remember everyone's names. Then more and more kids came until we had about 22. That was a lot. We had only planned for about 20 kids, so we didnt have enough crayon boxes for thekids to keep themselves, or enough notebooks. It was heartbreaking. But then, at about 2:30 MORE KIDS show up! It was a little group of boys, they were the trouble makers on monday, and they were all late. I kept them outside the classroom and had them write their names and took their pictures, and I scolded them, telling them they couldn't be late. Honestly, I don't think that they will be on time tomorrow! Haha, but at least I tried. I can't help but like them though because they all think they are so amazingly cool, it is hilarious.
Ok, we did school, I had a lot of fun, we drew and did some math and english. At 5 my group went back. Well, ok at our hostal
Pedro and Christopher
Christopher is and English teacher, Alex is his cousin there is the Cifuentes family, which are mestizos. Then they have a cook and a lot of just "hand" that help them out and also live there, who are indigenous. Well the son of one of the women that works there, his name is Pedro. Actually, his REAL name is Jonaton, but when he was 2 he was watching a telenovela, soap opera, and there was a kid on there named Pedro, so now he goes by Pedro. Well he has the biggest dimples and is just the cutest thing to walk the planet, I swear. And, he looooveeeeesss cameras. He just takes picture after picture then says "a ver" meaning he wants to see the picture. It is so cute, Ill try and load some of his handywork.
Ok then we went to the market, which was starting to close, and Katie said that is a good time to get some good deals. So, Jessie, I bought you an awesome present that you will love, but I won't tell you bc it's a secret. I was pretty excited with my buy.
Anywho, at 8:30 last night we had a salsa lesson!! It was INSANE!! And hilarious. I didn't
School materials
These are just some of our materials...we had so much! know that anyone had that much control over their butt, no joke. It was just us girls, Christopher didnt come (meaning me, Liz, Sarah, Alex, Dina, Daylin, Allison, Katie and Teresa. I will try and put up all their picutres some time so yall know who i'm talking about, and something about them). Our teacher was named Clever, and there were two other guys. It was at a gym, so Katie and Teresa worked out while the rest of us took our lesson. Dina and Allison already knew a little bit, so they worked separately. Ok let's start out by saying that Clever was kind of hot, in a macho ish, ghetto gym owner way. hahaha. But at the same time creepy. He was wearing shorts at first, and dude they were short. It was distracting bc then he started shaking his ass all over the place, not even kidding, saying "salsa..salsa..salsa" hahahaha. Oh, goodness. So then we all stood up and he played music and we just did the basics. We had to close our eyes and feel the music too. haha. And it was so funny because, really it is like, right, together, left together over and over
A box
That red sticker says fragile. Thanks a lot, airlines. They better compensate! again, and so every time we put our right foot out he'd say "salsa!" and then the next foot, he would say "salsa!" It was sooo funny. He really thought he was hot stuff too, becuase the room is all mirrors and he really liked to watch himself. Katie made a bet with him last year that he couldnt go one lesson without looking at himself in the mirror or they would shave his legs. Apparently he succeeded, but I find it hard to believe. Ill try to get pics of him..hahaha.
Then we went back and sat on the roof and talked. It was a great day, very busy. I'll try to write less next time, but yall know me, I can't even tell a story without going overboard.. I say every detail. ayy ya yaayy.
I love you all! xoxo,
Laura
