It is not difficult to be a decent wildlife photographer on the Galapagos. The Islands slap even the most impatient and unobservant with the opportunity to get the shot of a lifetime. However, these newly converted nature documenters get caught up with the larger and more colorful species, especially the mammals (seals and sea-lions) and few pay attention to the plain looking, but equally unique creatures, such as the finches and shore birds. While on the Galapagos I attempted to take pictures of every animal, or a least every species of animal, I saw. Unfortunately I had camera trouble for the last half of my expedition and so my collection is quite limited. However here is a list of the animals I saw while there, there were more but these are the ones I can remember, or bothered to write down.
Birds:
Brown Pelicans
Galapagos Penguins
American Oyster Catcher
Magnificent Frigate Bird
Wandering Tattler
Galapagos Dove
Galapagos Hawk
Blue Footed Boobie
Cactus Mocking Bird
Storm Petrel
Galapagos Flycatcher
Small Ground Finch
Medium Ground Finch
Yellow Warbler/ Galapagos Canary
Lava Gull
Darwin Finch
Night Gull
Brown Noddy
Willets and Wimbrells
Great Blue Heron
Other Animals:
Galapagos Shark
White Tipped Shark
Sea Turtle
Giant Land Tortoise- There are different species within and among the islands
Galapagos Land Iguanas
Marine Iguanas- only type of Marine Iguana in the world, they feed on plants at the bottom of the ocean
Manta Rays
Sting Rays- a few species but I am not sure what kind
Lizards
Sea-snake
Dolphins
Sea-lions- I beleive the same kind we have in Northern California
Fir seals
Whale (not sure what kind)
Crabs
and loads and loads of fish...
