I first came to Ecuador in the late 1980's to teach English in Quito. I fell in love with this country, the natural beauty, the warmth and generosity of the people. I went on to work in international education on nearly every continent, but Ecuador kept calling me back. This Chicago girl has a "latina soul"! I always stop for a few back and forth passes on the way down to Puyo (on the edge of the Amazon Basin). Keeps Scarlett sparkling clean!!

Pastaza River Opens Out

En route down to Puyo, dropping down towards the Amazon Basin - about 45 minutes from Baños I round a curve and this view takes my breath away! Every time.

Less than an hour from Baños, on the way down to the Amazon Basin, is a magical place in Cumandá.

Patrick (owner of SwissBistro and Finca de la Vaca) has created a beautiful riverside retreat.

Artful stonework on the other side of the pool. It's quite a spectacular setting!

Swimming Bliss

Long, deep pools filled with crystalline water. A perfect spot for a long, leisurely swim.

I loved this wall display of wooden spoons! It was a very cool tapas restaurant -- Betti, Lupe and I had a great meal!
