View of the river from the road Today we went to the Rio Borrachero. I'm not sure if that's the real name of the river or if that's just what it's called where we were. It was about a 45 min drive from our small city and man was it beautiful - the drive and the river.
It is located in a somewhat isolated community where you get off the main road (and there aren't many main roads in these parts), and you have to drive about 2 miles on an unpaved, rocky dirt road. Then, which is somewhat different from what I was used to, you turn into a driveway - a private driveway, pay 2000 pesos per person (basically $1/person) and you drive to the backyard where it leads straight to the river. Blue water, beautiful trees, with a view of the mountains behind it. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Since it's so isolated, it was mostly empty, so it was like having our own personal river (even though it was actually on someone else's private property).
The water was perfect, not too cold and not warm. Literally perfect. Sitting in the water, looking around at the beautiful surroundings
and it's easy to forget all your troubles and worries. Which is probably why I forgot about my recurrent ear infections from swimming underwater and spent the rest of the afternoon (after we left the river) in agonizing pain. But it was so worth it.
