Day 2 Torres del Paine
Sunday. A restless night as the rain beats against the dome. Patagonian weather is unpredictable at best and when we get up for breakfast we decide given the foul weather and the fact visibility is so low that we have no intention of hiking 26km in driving rain and decreasing temperatures to see nothing but cloud. It's gonna be a long day as there is little else to do other than read and blog. On top of this we have to change domes due to some maintenance required on ours. No upgrade to a larger and heated dome is on offer. Bugger! We are told that the winds around here can be as strong as 190kph and that the domes can withstand 240kph. We'd rather not be the Peruvian delicacy to prove this statement. There is chatter of thunder this morning. It is revealed that this was not thunder, but a nearby glacier breaking up.We sit in the common room drinking coffee, reading, playing patience (losing my patience) roulette and chatting waiting for our new dome. Given the weather situation and general mañana around here we cannot see any maintenance being undertaken today and it

should have just been left as is. Now we have to wait 2 hours before we can have showers. We have a rest from doing sweet FA and head back to common room to charge our devices and have a cuppa. I have my E-cig on charge and suddenly everything goes quiet. "I hope that's not me short circuiting the Ecocamp" I say, getting up to check. "no it's not me"Disappointedly we both decide that we'll be glad to leave here. A waste really as it totals almost 20 hours travel time to end up with only one full day. At least we saw the Torres del Paine.
Monday. It's time to leave to have a yummy lunch in Punta Natales, home of the extinct prehistoric milondon and then a further 3 hour drive to Punta Arenas to catch our flight back to Santiago before heading east to buenos aires on Tuesday.

Our guide offered a Pisco sour for spotting this skull. Many young guanachas are killed by the elusive Puma.
