To the elevator! To the elevator! To the elevator!

You had to walk into a very long tunnel to get to the acsensor (elevator). Once at the top you walked down the steps to the bottom looking at all the artwork on the walls.
There was no way Coebbie was getting another sleep in so after much protest he stumbled out of bed.

< Coebbie and the English dudes had gone to a bar with the intention to stay for a couple beers then go home. We're not sure what it is about Chilean beers but it only seems to take a couple compared to the several you'd need to have in Australia. A dreaded man was playing live at the first bar so after a few confidence boosters Coebbie convinced him to let him play "Brothers in Arms". The crowd loved it and the bar gave him a free drink. Still on a high the boys scaled the streets for another beer accompanied by their wolf pack. The dogs would bark and growl at anyone and anything that passed them so the boys felt pretty safe even though they apparently went into some pretty dodgy areas. Feed a few strays and they end up being your guards - it sounds like a pretty good deal to me. >

Coebbie and I walked into town and got hustled into a restaurant for some fish. It was alright but pretty

So strange to have an elevator just randomly in the city. They have a few of them in Valparaiso because the houses are all up high on the hill. You have to pay to get on them, which is sometimes worth it ;)
expensive. After lunch we caught the trolley bus to the bottom of Polanco. Frustratingly I hadn't gone to the toilet while we were still at the restaurant so by the time we got there I was busting. It took about half an hour to find the toilets. Mission!

We took the lift to the top of Polanco and breathed in the view of Valparaiso. Beautiful! Then as we walked down the steps we took photos of the strange and wonderful artworks painted on the houses.

At the bottom of the steps the street was alive with a massive fruit and vegetable market. With the lack of vegetables in our food of late we took advantage of it and bought some oversized broccoli and fruit. There was also a section at the market that was selling odds and ends people had brought from home to sell. We were not too sure how some of their trash could have been someone else's treasure. There were literally empty broken CD cases for sale.

We shared our leftover beer from lunch while looking out over the ocean and watched a group of teenagers play "spin

the bottle" on the rocks. We walked back to our hostel and I made an interesting concoction of rice and broccoli. It didn't taste too bad! It's amazing how desperate you'll get on a budget….

So we ate and drank wine and listened to the musical stylings of a couple from Valparaiso. They were actually pretty amazing although the lady singing had really bad cross eyes so it was awkward looking directly at her.

After we got kicked out of the hostel at midnight we went to the same bar the boys had loved the night before. I got my portrait done by the same funny faced old man. He sort of made a show of it as he drew your face. Coebbie and I left for home after a bit.

(I have so many more pictures but it's difficult to upload them for some reason...)

First artwork off the elevator.

Rabies

We avoid most of the dodgy looking dogs here for fear of the rabies. This one looked particularly infected. He was standing in this same position long after I had taken this photo.

Such strange concepts.

Not sure if this slide would meet the safety regulations in Australia but these Chileno children don't seem to mind.
