Saturday 26th The bus arrived in Puerto Varas last night about half hour late and we took our seats. The 13 hour journey through the night flew bye in absolute comfort. That's what I'd like to say but actually it was pretty uncomfortable sitting in one place for that long trying to get to sleep while the two old men behind yattered on for ever ! Christine slept most of the way back but I arrive feeling spaced out with a sort of jet lag. We finally arrive around ten in the morning to a grey and cold Santiago. Winter's coming. We find our hostel and luckily have been put in a small apartment away from the main building. We're on the 9th floor and get a view over the city. After a quick wash and ... read more

This is a very simple tribute to the people I met during my trip. A lot of them went out of their way to help me out or make me feel at home and a lot of them I like to think of as friends now. Even though they may only be named briefly in this post, I took a lot of time to write this and thought about every single one of the people I mentioned here by name and how interacting with them in different times, places and circumstances influenced my trip. The more you travel, the more you realize the vast amount of good-natured people out there. And 22 months of traveling finally came to an end. Out of the things I had planned, I managed to do a lot of them, I ... read more

Our time in Peru had come to an end and it was now time to start making our way to Chile. The bus journey from Lima took us to Peru's border town Tacna. After going so north in Peru we had a long way to get to Valparaiso so after crossing the border from Tacna into Chile we arrived in a place called Arica. Arica was half a beach town and half a city but due to the cooler weather we spent our short time there in the city rather than on the beach. There aren't too many hostels in Arica but the one we stayed in was called Arica Unite which was perfect for our one night stay there. The next day we did another short bus journey to Iquique to break up our long ... read more

Santiago was such a let down, i decided to get out of the city and head to the coast. The ski resorts were closed the week before so there was nothing to see. i caught a bus to Valparaiso two hours away. A port town northwest of Santiago, it is a hilly bohemian paradise. there is street art every turn you make and the streets wind very steeply in all directions from "the plan" the flat centre of the town to the hills surrounding it. Nicknamed “The Jewel of the Pacific”, Valparaíso was declared a world heritage site based upon its improvised urban design and unique architecture. Also host to the down hill BMX rally each year... check out the link at the bottom if you're interested. i booked into the hostel Valparaiso and instantly met ... read more
