One for you Amil! A brief (but long overdue) entry.
10am, and the overnight bus from Mendoza, Argentina, has arrived in Santiago, Chile, the final escapade in our South American chapter.
Rode the subway to our hostel La Casa Roja, a old red building, with a pool bar, hammocks and sunny weather, so a good note on which to end. We spent our last few days walking around town, watching films and sitting in the hammocks by the pool playing with Murphy, the hostel puppy (much to Jane's delight). We also checked out the local fish market that had many little restaurant/cafes inside and had one of my best meals so far, a dish of fresh crab baked in a cheesy sauce with a crusty baguette and lemon wedges for dressing. We also came back for some more ceviche the following day but discovered that the ceviche in Santiago was not the same as Peru, much to our disappointment.
On our last day we felt a mixture of relief, we would be heading to an English speaking country and have our own transport, sadness, this being the end of leg 1, and excitement, next stop New Zealand! We had a ride to
the airport in a 4x4 with two Chilean women sitting in front and their 10 year old son sitting in the back between us, listening to his mp3 - like a chubby latino Ben from EastEnders.
Adios Amigos.
