Hey all!!
Well it's my last day and I am leaving the hostel for the airport in two hours!! Quite tired!!
On friday we went out for the last supper (official) to a lovely grill restaurant. Tamara and I shared a huge bowl of meat cooked to perfection. We had quite a few laughs there and then went on to a street in our guidebooks which was full of clubs and pubs. We started in a Lousiana styled pub and got free beers for entering, ended up singing kareoke and got free drinks for that too!! We ended up in a grotty club, getting free Cuba Libres for entering, and danced 'til 4am. It was a bit of a meat market but we had good fun together. Slept in til 12pm... it was great not having to get up for anything!!!
In the afternoon I moved to my hostel - Rio Amazonas which is a 25-30 min walk away. It is lovely, I have my own room with double bed and en-suite which is pure luxury after sharing for so long!! I just went wandering around Santiago to the Mercado Central - the famous fish markets, and the
Plaza de Armas, before walking up the Santa Lucia hill which was very pretty and had good views of the city.
Met the guys for dinner later, went back to the same street as last time for dinner and went out after to a Flintstones themed pub. This time I couldn't last the night and went back early for some sleep. Yesterday I started packing, and then met the guys to go to the Concha y Toro wineyard. It was interesting, not much wine tasting, we had two glasses.. one white and one red, the white was nicer. They didn't actually have the vineyards or processing plant there, but we did see the cellars and barrels all stacked up. We also learned the legend of the Castillo del Diablo- the devil's cellar.
We stayed in the wine bar there for awhile before realising we would be late for dinner.. it would take an hour and a half to get back with taxis and metro!! Returned 30mins late but it was ok, the new people joining the tour were out with Pedro and Wes. Us core six (Tams, Lisa, Mary, Matt, Qamar and me) went out after to our
favourite street, started out in the Flintstones themed pub again with free beers and cuba libres, and we went from there!! Stayed out dancing til 4am again, only returning to the hotel about 5am, and I ended up staying there to be able to say goodbye to everyone at 7am when we were leaving!! Managed to get an hours sleep half on half off the bed with four others, and then we managed to wake up at 07:10 - mad dash to get everyone and their bags down to the truck!!
We said goodbye and a few tears were shed, and now I'm back at the hostel slightly worse for wear. Luckily all packed!!!
Be home soon!!
