We found this cave by chance - there ws a hole in the ground, a narrow opening that led out to a huge cave that looked out through the cliffs on to the Pacific Ocean

we trekked around the island one fine day and hardly saw a soul, but plenty of Moais, these fellas were the only ones to face the ocean, as all the others face inland to protect the islanders

Light up dramatically this moai watches as people walk to and from the town, we're sure this was not what he was intended for, but it was cool all the same

Cold and windy as it was the middle of winter, from this viewing point we had limited views - the winter smog hiding most of teh city and the snowcapped mountians in the background - we are told it is beautiful in summer, but guess it has to be seen to be believed, the city was more highrise and modern than we had imagined though!

on the top of a hill stood this cannon which would have once fired out onto invaders, and now points towards the modern highrise city!

A beautiful lake in Chile's lake district, only slightly different to Argentina's lake district across the Alps!

A perfect winter's day here in southern Chile, cold wet and snowy...we didn't really have snow-wear and almost got lost in the white wonderland around this mountian top lake.

this dramatic volcano dominated this little mountain side village and was the highlight of our visit here, can't believe we nearly missed it though, as after 3 days of total cloud, one morning it was just there!

With chimmneys smoking and log fires roaring, the village here was very inviting, a place we would love to come back to one day, our favourite place in Chile!

Great article. I have always been interested in going to E.I. Hope to get there someday before it gets screwed up. I live in Pa. so I guess I'd have to get to Chile from Philadelphia, or Baltimore. Thanks again for that great article.
