I'd come to one of those mythical places that conjures up images of adventure and a palpable sense of history! Punto Arenas, the capital of the Magellanes and Chilean Antarctica Region, is the southern-most point on continental South America, and sits on the Straits of Magellan with a view across to Tierra del Fuego. What a thrill! Upon arrival, I immediately headed to the waterfront to see... Read Full Entry

Always remembered
Seems that Punta Arenas has everything...incredible sunsets...views to the end of the world...and fabulous resting places to enjoy it from. Thanks for the historical accounts...and as always the etherial hues that colour memories of the wilds & wonders of Patagonia.

Thanks Roger!
I'm glad you enjoyed the historical tidbits--I'm never sure if I put people to sleep with these. The colors were a stroke of luck in that cloudy land. So happy you liked them.

Yes, PA has everything!
Glad you remembered, too, my Patagonian brother, the wonder of Punta Arenas, since it seems so many others just breeze through this lovely city. Ethereal hues and even cloudy days are sweet in Patagonia.

Sweet street dogs...
Ah I wish more people thought like you Tara. Looking forward to reading about the 'suffocating slice of hell' bus ride :)

Thanks, Ren. Actually, in Rome, I volunteered with an organization that was neutering cats, and it was so absurd to have men come up and berate us for taking away their manhood. One bad bus ride coming up...

Teacher need to teach!
Love it when you give us historical data to broaden our horizons on an area. Love the colors and the plaza looks wonderful. I'm a pet person so glad to see the pup. You could easily get a job teaching a graduate course on South America. Happy travels.

Historical tidbits
I have been offered jobs as guides several times, and I'd love to teach a class in SA history. In Europe, I made elaborate charts of the countries, empires and leaders--I can be crazy for history, so I'm glad I didn't bore you with it. Hope you be able to get a pet in your new digs.
