Well, as i mentioned before, the plane is fixed, we are ready to get stuck into it all, itching to get out.....yet, we are still hanging around Punta Arenas. Now its the CAA (civil aviation authority) who have grounded our plane. Not only is it dodgy due to breaking down, when it is fixed it cant even take off due to an un signed piece of paper. The reason for this is because there are only 2 mechanics with the plane which is stranded over at Rothera and these are the guys who have completed all the work. For a plane to legally be allowed to fly you need a seperate mech who hasnt worked on the plane to check all the job and sign it off. Slight problem there, the nearest mech is back in Oxford!!! Anyway, im led to believe this problem has now been sorted and yet again we hear the words, "Its gonna be tommorrow boys, get your gear packed!!" again.
At least it led to more exploring, and a 3rd hotel in 5 days. Which now leaves me sleeping in a bunkbed due to a cruise ship being in town and all the other hotels being full. Musnt grumble. Walked out of town and visited a few wrecks which are strung out along the coastline, then back into the town for a walk around the local graveyard. Sick, i hear you say? Not really, but a fascinating place. Huge family tombs elaboratly decorated in celebration and colour make this graveyard a fascinating place to stroll around. Old graves from English explorers and crazy Scottish farmers, memorials to the many ships wrecked along this infamous stretch of water and colours jumping out everywhere, it ended up a very nice stroll. All be it over dead people.
So, tommorrow we go, next entry should be from Rothera itself.
