Dag 25: Puerto Natales

Vanochtend eerst uitslapen (in ieder geval Silvia: na zo’n rum-domino avond…) en rond 10 uur meren we af in Puerto Natales, het eindpunt van onze ‘cruise’ met Navimag. We hebben weer vaste grond onder onze voeten!
Na het inchecken in ons hotel Australis (met uitzicht op de boot) verkennen we een beetje het stadje Puerto Natales. En omdat iedereen van de boot hier ook blijft overnachten (verspreidt over diverse hostals) komen we in het stadje bijna iedereen tegen.
Omdat het toch wel een late avond was geworden gaan we naar het hotel terug en doen het even rustig aan vandaag.

Let’s get right to the point - Puerto Natales is the gateway to Parque Nacional Torres del Paine and not much else. It’s not the most attractive town in the region (nor the least attractive) - but considering that it’s the departure point for the best national park in South America, it doesn’t matter.
The town sits on the shores of Seno Ultima Esperanza, 250km northwest of Punta Arenas via Ruta 9, and has some striking views out over the mountains. It is the capital of the province of Ultima Esperanza and is the southern terminus of the ferry trip through the Chilean fjords.
