JC from a distance!!
At last we have found him..... Hola Amegos!
Firstly, sorry about the technical glitch with updating this site, we did a post as soon as we arrived just incase anyone was wondering if we made it but we didn't publish it - woops! Anyway, today your going to get the first and last entry from Rio as we are moving on!
Sunday 3rd June
So, after we did our blog we went to the football like we said, the stadium was amense! Massive and totally crazy! There was such a good atmosphere, we seriously think that more girls woulf like footie if it was like that back home. As much food and beer as you want, flags, dancing, music and fire crackers! Leaving the stadium was almost as fun as the game. We got picked up on the side of the motorway, we then reversed back on to it and as we were about tio pull off a riot started between the fans......imagine that scene from Shrek when they all chase him through the woods....haha! Really funny!! We were in a bit of a rush to get back because we were off to the Favela Funk party that evening! We had the best
time, the music was great, the place was rammed and the alcohol was flowing....we set off, about 16 of us in a 8 seater minibus, stopped at the petrol station on route for a carry out and made our way to the Favela (Shanty Town). It seemed like the most fun, random experience ever - absoloutely brilliant!!!! These brazilions party even harder than us Milfodians, we knew then that we were going to fit in well B-)
Monday 3rd June
Woke up feeling slightly fragile but at least the sun was finally shining and we were able to shed the pac-a-macs! Had a bit of a wonder around, laze on the beach and then went to finally meet out mate JC up on the hill. The views were amazing and he was HUGE!!! Really cool to see Rio from that hight up, got to see the contrast between rich and poor areas and of course the coast and all the land marks...Mon night waqs quite low key, just a few beers in the hostel...
Tuesday 4th June
Today we went to the Favela (shanty Town). We went to the biggest one here in Rio, 200,000
people live here and it was unbelievable. Totally different to anything we had so far experienced, quite sad really to see just how poor the people here really are. We got there and there were a few police cars around, our guide then told us that a police man had come in to the favela to cease a bandit machiene (because gambling is illegal here, guns are leagl though!!!) and they had shot him down and killed him - nice!!! So there was a bit of worry about wether or not they would come back and we would get stuck min a cross fire! We got on a motor bike taxi to get to the top of the Favela - OMG we were doding in and out of buses and other coming down the hill - they forget to mention this bit when we booked the tour and you should have seen our faces bearing in mind none of us have been on a motorbike before!! It was a touching cloth moment ha ha !!!!! In evening we wne to a club with a load of others from the hostel - it was ok good night but not really emerrsing
