Catch of the day
Fishing on Barra de LagoaAfter a thirteen hour bus journey we arrived hungry in Florianopolis. We had been spoilt by Argentinian bus journeys and found it difficult to get used to crackers as our only nourishment for thirteen hours. We picked up some maps of the area and set about organising some transport. A car seemed the best way to get around so we hired one and set off for Ilha de Santa Catarina (Santa Catarina Island).
Barra de Lagoa We got to know the island pretty well looking around for a pousada (a mini appartment with kitchen etc.). There seemed to be lots happening on the beaches from football to sandboarding. We eventually settled on Barra de Lagoa, a little fishing village with lots of tourists, most of them Brazilian. The pousada we stayed in was across a pretty little rope bridge alongside where the fishermen were fishing. Some of them were just standing in the middle of the lake with their nets and every so often they would throw them out in the water and usually catch quite a few. The only way home
Crossing the footbridge is the only way across to the other side of the Lagoa to the beach for a nightcap. We had a few caipirinhas with Bob Marley (the Brazillians love him!) playing in the background.
Next day we spent some time on the beach after booking our bus tickets to Curitiba. We felt pretty overdressed on the beach, everything that has been said about Brazillian beachware is true, it is brief and tight!! We just about made the bus the next day as our taxi driver didn't turn up.
