We were lucky enough meet one of the locals (Emerson) who showed us a side of Rio that we never would have been able to experiance on our own such as going to a soccer match and experiancing the night life the way the locals do. We even went to a pre-carnival samba party and danced an australian version of the Samba with some over excited locals til the early hours of the morning. As well as this, we went to a Carnival practice and saw two Samba schools rehearsing at one of the real venues of Carnival. The view of Copacabana beach from our balconey at our hotel. spent on a one day tour of some of the islands two hours from Rio, the main one being Isla Grande. On our last day we were lucky enough to do a tour of a Favela (shanty town). This was a fantastic experiance and a great way to see the other side of Rio. Some of the proceeds from the tour we went on went to a local school which we visited and saw first hand how a little bit of help can go along way. There arent any photos at night because, although its a great city, its not safe to take the camera out, but this is what we got up to during the day!
