Leaving the previously found shelter with my mother in Asuncion. On my unplanned way back to Germany...Luckily I was able to stopover in Rio de Janeiro and my onward flight to Frankfurt with Lufthansa was delayed by 48 hours. Lufthansa paid for each of the 180 passengers nothing less than the Copacabana Palace hotel...
Still remembering...Just left Asuncion on a controversy issue with my mother...My mother intended me to stay and go to school there...The one and only time in life I remember my father actually made a decision to help me rather than himself...Bad enough...it was the only good decision he ever made...Nothing good followed...
Ok, don't get me wrong...I loved Paraguay but way back than it was a hiding place of German criminals running away from the judging system of Germany...I am talking about economic criminality. They run away with money that wasn't belong to them to start a new life in Alfredo Stroessner's Paraguay...Yes...you are reading right...He was a German president of Paraguay...Old Nazi connections probably included...It served the German community well...For me it was a bit to much way back than and I decided to leave...I was 17...Not to easy to simply leave...It worked...I was in fact
running away from there...My father paid a plane ticket from Asuncion to Frankfurt, via Rio... The economy class wasn't available and my usually greedy father decided to buy a business class ticket to get me out of there.
Haha...This business class landed me in a first class suite and the Copacabana Palace Hotel...Of course that wasn't in the plan of Lufthansa but arriving in Rio de Janeiro GIG airport...Lufthansa first paid our lunch...After about 6 hours they decided to send the entire passenger list to a hotel. Copacabana Palace was booked entirely by Lufthansa for 2 nights, the time they need to bring a new Jumbo back down to Rio.
Business class passengers where booked into the suites and economy passengers into ordinary rooms. Wonderful...Not every 17 year old boy could say I wan living in a 500 Deutschmark suite for two nights .
Thanks Lufthansa for this wonderful cheap but expensive travel experience.
Of course I took full advantage of it...Back than Copacabana was a safe experience...I was sitting late night in front of the hotel right on the beach and went swimming...Oh yes, it's Rio...I did meet a girl or shall I say the girl met me...I was the usual shy boy,
just recently lost my virginity to our maid in Asuncion, she was 8 years older than me...This time around...she is 2 years younger than me and come from one of the favelas...Nothing was dangerous in 80's...Al these crazy crack heads moved in during the 90's.
She was showing me the Corcovado and Sugar Leaf mountain...Truly an experience to remember. She was running away from violence in her home and I was running away from...hmmh...What exactly...I don't remember right now...Perhaps it comes back into my mind...Anyway, we had 48 hours that stay in my memory for ever...
Saying good bye to her was hard...I was 17 and knew almost for sure that I will never see her again in my life...A truly sad moment of mine...I almost...yes, almost decided to run away with her and stay in Rio...Huh...where would I be today...Not sure...This picture is in my memory as if I would have taken it yesterday...1985 in Rio...I love it...Perhaps to be continued later...
