Ok so I arrived a couple of weeks ago in Rio for Carnivale. After an interesting flight on the dodgiest airline ever seriously we were all very scared after the take off was so wobbly. No movie was shown the whole way AND we had a crazy drunk man keeping the whole plane awake! He stunk of rum and was walking up and down the plane talking a the top of his voice to everyone and being quite rude. All the passengers were getting really pissed off. Someone told him to shut up and he threatened to smash them. Then Swanny and I asked the air host why they would not make him be quiet. Eventually he shut up and we found out later he had been handcuffed!!
So 4 days in Rio, was very crazy, very fun and scary. The day times were really hot and I have never ever seen a beach with so many people on it. We were at Copacabana. The place was very dirty and we would only take out the money we needed in our bras because lots of people get robbed. To get to the water you seriously had to step over people.
I didn´t really enjoy swimming there at all. though one morning were down there about7.30 and it was a lot less crowded. Its cool though cos people sell everything on the beaches. People walk passed you selling clothes, sarongs, hats, heaps of jewellery, and beer any kind of food. Yes we had to have a beer when someone came past selling it at 7.30 in the morning. Just because that would never happen in Australia.
So the first night we went to a red and black ball. We all got dressed up and it was a classic. I have photos and when I get them all downloaded will put them on the web. Swanny was in fine form this night and took full advantage of dancing on the stage at any chance with her harmonica. The next day was the booze cruise. All the staff of the tour company's that Krissy works with and swanny shae and I. We went out on the harbour, Rio is set in amazing landscape was good to get away from the dirtiness of Rio ad see it from the ocean. This booze cruise as nuts! Everyone was smashed pretty much by 10am. There
were food fights, people being thrown in, hijacking kayak's that went past. There were no rules at all it was hilarious. Actually I have come to the conclusion there there are basically no rules In Brazil at all. Cars don't even obey the road rules. just beep if its red and you can zoom though no worries.
Next night was the highlight, we went to see the carnivale samba parades. Basically each samba school parades with different themes and there own samba song. It is a competition ad it is MASSIVE! I will have to send photos of this night. The costumes were unbelievable. So much work goes into these. Everyone is very passionate about there samba schools. It is like how Australia is with Football. Here it is all about the samba school you cheer for. Within about 10min Krissy and I had convinced some people to give us there costumes.
So for the rest of the night our mission was to get dressed in as many costume as possible. I have to send the photos!! The parades go till 6am! we left about 5am.
The next night we went out for a few quite drinks and
Booze Cruise
Veiw of Rio from the Cruise maybe a little dance. little did we know that this is not really possible in Rio during carnivale time and we stumbled upon and big gay street party!!!! never seen so many gay! it was a cack! we stayed there for a while then went down the beach where to our surprise again was a beach party!! DJ set up and hundreds of people just dancing everywhere!!! It was unreal!! we ended up watching the sun rise and went home about 7.30am. totally stuffed. After about 4 hours sleep it was off for a bit of paragliding over RIO. Very fun. The scaryiness part of paragliding was the taxi ride there. Drivers here are madmen dont worry about lane lines thay dont mean anything. Cars just pulling out everywhere, o and no one uses indicaters. Once I was in the air it was very relaxing.
So that was Our time in Rio. non stop craziness!! All of us girls were fine. However our friend Victor from London was not so lucky and while walking down the beach in the daytime in front of lots of people two guys held him at knife point and robbed him of his watch
Bobby dazzler
Shae in fine form as bartender camera and $300. Poor guy he was very shaken up.
So after Rio we took a bus trip down south to a beautifully tropical island called Ihla grande. After Rio we basically died and went to Heaven!! Th place was unbelievable. No cars on the whole island just push bikes. We made friends with some locals who invited the 6 of us over for dinner. They then got out there musical instruments and sung song's in Portuguese the whole night. Any king of percussion you can think of they had it and we were playing it too!! Very random night! Then next day they took us out on there boat to a surf beach. The most beautiful beach in Brazil they say! It was amazing. Little waves perfect for me.
Night times everyone just dances in town to reggae music. there are stands selling drinks everywhere. The cocktails here are awesome. for about 3 Australian dollars you can have mango cocktails passion fruit what ever you want. The local drink in Brazil is the caperinas. A lime kind of cocktail. very cheap and good.
So after we chilled out on this paradise island for 4 days we
have now come to a place further south called Florinopilis. After about 23 hours on a bus yesterday and last night we arrived here this morning. Buses over here are really good though, they recline right back and very comfy. We travelled through the night so saved on the accommodation! Bargin! Much bigger island than ihla grande but more beautiful beaches for us to chill out on. We are staying in a persuada for less than $10 a night per person. we have our own kitchen and bathroom!! Its great you can bargin for anything!! Although its easier at the moment as Krissy and Shae and speak Spanish. I have to learn Spanish quickly as I know it will save us money. I´m working on it but so far can only say a few things. Its hard to learn Spanish in a country that speaks Portuguese! But we will be in mostly Spanish speaking country's soon.
Agh the life!!! Life is all good I am loving the travelling so far but it i only the start of an adventure. I am quite sure we will need much longer than 4 months to explore this country.
