Three days of trekking, sunbathing and swimming in pools and under waterfalls. It was wonderful!
Lencois is a 6 hour bus ride from Salvador. We took the 23.30 departure and arrived at an awful 5.30 am! Luckily our room in the hostel was available and we were able to catch up on some sleep.
Day One We walked 4km or so each way to some natural swimming holes and water slides. It was fantastic. The water was cool and deep enough to swim in. Sliding down the slide was a bit bumpy and not advisable without your specs so Trish missed out. She also missed out on the bruises! Our map to get there was very accurate, but the waypoints seemed a bit sketchy at first: "Steep Up", "Big Building", "Yellow Wall"!
In the evening we visited the wonderful
Etnia restaurant where Trish had Indian style beef curry and Russ had a very hot Thai red chicken curry. Go there if you need your curry fix!!!!
Day Two Today was a whole day excursion. We were collected at 8.30am and driven out into the Chapada Diamantis National Park. We climbed and walked 6km each way to the
"Smoking Waterfall". It was a tough climb (and descent) but well worth every drop of sweat in the scorching sun. The waterfall drops 400m straight down, but because of the winds, most of the water is returned to observers at the top in the form of mist and spray. It was amazing. Following the return hike we stopped off at another waterfall with beautiful water for swimming in. We returned feeling quite refreshed!
In the evening there was a Capoeira lesson for some local kids in our hostel. It was great to see and Russ had fun playing on a
berimbaus which a guy called Newton let him have a go of. It was really difficult as the instrument is held using just the little finger of the left hand, hardly the strongest part of the body!
Day Three We did another unguided walk to more pools and waterfalls. The main waterfall we reached was fantastic especially as we had it all to ourselves. How romantic! There

They do a terrific job of steering you away from damaged and flooded areas were a couple of spots for a natural jacuzzi too! On our return to Lencois we cooled off in some shallow pools. Unfortunately they seem to be fed from streams where the local women do their washing. The water had quite an odd smell and we didn't stay too long!
After a few weeks of beaches it was nice to stretch our legs, especailly knowing the next couple of weeks are back to the beaches once more!!!!!

Looks perfect!
Hi guys! Wow, this looks like a great place to spend a few days - nothing better than splashing around in the water! And I am very jealous of your curry fix - I´ve now gone 6 months without a curry and not sure I can wait until I get back to Wales in September! Take care and happy travels, Ruth.
