Last day in Salvador and we are off to Bela Horizonte this evening....
Four days ago - we got to Lencois on an overnight coach.
We really had no idea what to expect but as soon as we checked in at our hostel everything just fell into place. An English couple had contacted this 'guide´ 6 months ago and luckily he agreed to take us along with him.
Now - the couple had come fully kitted up for this serious 4 day trek - hiking boots, waterproofs, sleeping bags and all- while Mohini and I had NOTHING…but I am so glad we decided to go along as this was maybe the most interesting 4 days of our whole trip.
Its not just that we walked around 30km, swam in the most secluded waterfalls never touched by a tourist, climbed caves and hills to view the most stunning scenery, crossed rivers on foot , slept in a ranch on a stone cold floor and under a blanket of stars … all of this was mind blowing but there was more.
The guide may just be the most interesting person I have ever met. He is not really
a guide - he just uses the money to fund his project in Lencois. Moo and I were just left mouths wide open as he talked about nature, culture, religion, politics and his project in Lencois to help the women of the region… List is endless. I really can’t think of any way that would describe him and do him justice. Lets just say - moo and I have left really inspired
And that was not the end - a GP, a Financial Advisor , a German Guitarist , Moo and myself all went along - diversity at its best…. And everyone has loads of information to share. They were all 10 years older than Moo and me and we loved it!!! Every conversation was meaningful and every hike was more beautiful than the last…
Then departed from the group to see some of the tourist stuff. For a while - moo and I were in a bit of a shock because after a couple of days of not seeing another human being or car we were surrounded by European tourists in a bus. Still the sights were brilliant - we snorkeled in a pitch black cave, saw clear blue caves and swam in lagoons .
The last day was dedicated to food - so we ate and ate until moo could eat no more. Mum - she totally agrees with you about the eating comment - I am slowly converting her to my way of eating and trying everything ( even raisins and olives)
Back in Salvador yesterday and have had time to relax before we start our road trip tmrw - where we have no idea where we will be but have to try and get to Rio somehow for New Years…
