On the bus, I shall be mainly eating fruit. I wanted to buy three bananas (quite a few anyway, right?) but to make the price up to 1 boliviano (15 to the pound) I had to get seven. Ditto with the oranges. I shall be listening to Cold Play, Green Day (American Idiot), FF live at Glastonbury, the BEPs, and a compilation CD with Foo Fighters´"Best of You", which had been sending me wild when it came up on Xfm before I left. So good. I have a blanket too. A fetching grey with lime green flecks, it is. Bring this journey on! Sorry, just wasting time (yeah yeah, I hate waste, I know) before meeting the lazy ones for lunch.... read more

Did Mongos, Ram Jams then Mongos again last night for last night with Alice and Chris :-(. (Good tip, Sammie.) From 2.45 today I´ll be toute seule and fending for myself. Expect I´ll start losing cameras and luggage again. It was fun though, and I wish them all the best in the jungle with the mosquitoes. So, I´m not feeling totally tip-top all told, though I´ve a still a couple of hours for it to clear. I´m super duper excited, though, as I´m about to go and buy my pirated CDs for my new player. Woohoo. The men with there little stalls don´t have everything, but I´ve spotted and have my heart set on, to name a few, new Coldplay, F Ferdinand and Black Eyed Peas (solely for Let´s Get Retarded, which we had in both ... read more

Did I sound smug in my last entry, at the bottom of the world´s most dangerous road, following my successful cycle ride? Well, I shouldn´t have. The journey back up!! It´s far more scary being in the back of a jeep jumping around all over the place just centimetres from the edge, and it takes longer than going down. You also notice the smashed up vehicles at the bottom when you look out of the window. We´d been going up for a few hours when we got stuck in a traffic jam and the van in front of us fell half down a ditch on the cliff side. It was dark and there were lorries, cars and vans trying to go in both directions, but everything came to a standstill, with the typical sheer drop to ... read more

I survived! and not only that, i absolutely loved every minute of it! Well, apart from the cold shower at the end and the fact that we had to cycle uphill for 25 minutes!! How hardcore am I?!? At the beginning I was so nervous and worried and convinced that I would be right at the back of the group going 2mph, I fully expected to either hit a truck (which i actually very nearly did!) or go over the edge. We had heard so many horror stories and we talked to people who had done it before who all said it was fun but really dangerous and really scary. I was terrified. But as soon as we got going it was utterly fantastic. Our guide Louis was great, he was up at the front all ... read more

Phew. I made it down the world´s most dangerous road. I enjoyed it a big lot, and wasn´t nearly as afraid as I was afraid I would be. Still have to drive back up to La Paz though... I was lucky. Two days ago, it rained and so the road wasn´t nearly as dusty as it can be. I´ve taken some photos which I shall eventually display. We´re looking for something to do tomorrow night for fun, and Alice and Chris are off to the jungle on Monday morning. (I don´t know what I´m doing yet. Salt flats if I can sort it out.) Nightclub suggestions, people who´ve been? Not the cinema. Did that yesterday - it was as cold as one of those overnight bus journeys. Saw Batman. It wasn´t bad, actually.... read more

I think I´ve had confimed that most people I know and love in London are OK now, so I´m relaxing. I shan´t go on about it. I really really like La Paz. There´s something about capital cities, isn´t there? They have a special energy. I´d like to hang around here for a few days. My new camera is as like my lost one as can be without actually being it. It´s 7.2 megapixels, a slight upgrade, with a 2.5" screen, a slight downgrade. Don´t know whether it´s a good price or not. Probably not, but not too far off. On my way to buy it, I walked down La Paz´s main thoroughfare. You´re told to expect to see political demonstrations quite often along here. I didn´t. I saw loads of schools parading their sports teams. People ... read more

So were still having fun in La Paz, hanging out and sleeping in. The fruit loop has sadly left us, he's off to Colombia next to take part in some crazy indigeounous rituals so good luck to him! He's been replaced by a Fifer! We met him on the Inca Trail and I cant remeber his name but he's from Cupar and seems very nice, although I'm not sure if he'll make our beds and buy us flowers! I think I've exhausted all the markets because I keep recognising the stallholders and remembering that I had previously told them I didn't have much money so I could get things cheaper! (a good trick the locals use) Another trick is to have just a little bit of change in your pocket and offer that amount, they say ... read more

Last time I was in an internet cafe, two days ago, my Bolivian computer wouldn´t support my blog entry page, so perhaps I´ve been a little slow with this most recent update. But what´s your excuse, eh?! You, with your high-speed broadband at work at home, the bulk of you. There were no messages for me when I logged on this evening. Zilcho. Rien. Nada. Most unimpressive. Well, you´re getting the less funny version of the last few days, that´s for sure. That hilarious story with the raving shoelace seller, one-legged cat and 2 litre bottle of Inca Cola? It goes to the grave with me... So I was about to go to some potentially interesting islands. They were tip top, they really were. My guidebook was quite sniffy, criticising the kiddies for asking for money ... read more

So were still in La Paz and weve had an extremely busy week of doing not much of anything at all and its great! Every morning our first priority is a smoothie from the market. Although the past couple of days our clock hasnt worked so sometimes we dont make it out of the hostel until mid afternoon! A couple of days ago the clock said 10.30am when we were heading out, we were so proud of ourselves for waking so early and planned to use our day fully by having a nice breakfast and then going shopping and taking in some city sights. On our way out we met a friend in the street, a yank whos name escapes me, hes been here for a couple of months so we asked him to recommend a ... read more

So we´re now in La Paz. Its quite strange being in such a big busy city after being in the countryside for so long but it seems really cool. We got the afternoon bus after going for breakfast at quite a dodgy reataurant in the centre of Copacabana. The guy brought me fried egg with a small black curly hair in it! Yuck! And when i pointed it out he took it away, picked the hair off and brought it back!! Arrgghh! I just gave him a horrified look and he said "oh, do you want a new one"?!? I assured him that i did! So weve spent the past couple of days hanging out and shopping. Everything is so cheap here. Accommodation is about 1.30gbp per night and eating out is about the same. We’ve ... read more
