8 May 2014 Thursday. Our guide, Juan, picked us up at our La Paz hotel at 8 am and then drove to the Main Square where taracloud, a fellow Travelblogger who I have followed for several years, was waiting for us. She asked that we wait a minute while she checked a nearby coffee shop for her camera. Unfortunately, it wasn't where she had left it, and subsequent searches were fruitless. So some of th... Grand adventures and travel blog gatherings!
Fantastic that you were able to get together for a day. Tragic that the camera is lost but hopefully soon it will be replaced. I'm sorry to hear that people from the U.S. have decreased their visits to Bolivia and it is rich in history and beauty. One day we will get there!

Sounds like fun
I am glad you were able to spend some time with Tara. I know I really enjoy her company. It is fun to follow along with you and see how you are seeing and doing your trip and the differences in it from mine. It sounds like you are having fun and your pictures are great. I really like the one of the 3 of you.

TARA IS No. 1 GUIDE
Fantastic you met up with Tara. Surprised you refer to another as your Guide, she being known to many as Number 1 Guide, but I guess she does not need the title while guiding you guys. Another TB event of discovery...well done.

A fabulous day!
Camera, umbrellas and possessions may come and go, but travelblogging friends are forever! It was great that we had lots of time in the car and at lunch to get to know each other--it seemed we packed in more than a day's worth of fine time getting to know each other. You two are on quite an adventure--and still more to come. See you sometime in your beautiful Colorado! And I love this photo of the three of us--good show!

Left-leaning
The governing Socialist party led by Evo Morales has governed the country since 2006, following the first ever majority victory by a single party. I think the main reason US tourist numbers in Bolivia, and South America generally, have dropped off, is the implementation of reciprocal visa fees applying to Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and until very recently, Chile. Those 500 bucks will influence a tourist’s behaviour more than the political leaning of the government.

Thanks for your comment...
Our guide, Juan, kept mentioning 2009...perhaps that was the date where reforms were enacted. I agree that a country that has a mostly Indian population should be represented by an Indian and that the land reforms that give the land back to those who work it as opposed to the privileged who have controlled Bolivian society and politics should have these reforms. But you can do reforms without being unfriendly to those who wish to visit your country. And as for reciprocal visa charges, I wish the U.S. government would take the first step and stop charging tourists from those countries. I wonder whether Brazil will do so for the 2016 Olympics.

Lovely to Read
So nice to hear of your meeting up and the lovely day you spent, super pictures as well.

It's starting to sound like Tara is a symbolic monument herself who must be visited for any bloggers who go to South America. ;) I love these mini-TB gatherings. I'm finding the comments regarding the reciprocal visa charges especially interesting -- it seems like the golden rule is being held up like a mirror to the US and the reflection is spreading quickly. I also hope that the US government reconsiders the consequences and benefits of its strict and often biased visa regulations. Loving the blogs (and the new profile photo -- lovely)!

I hope TBers continue to meet Tara...
her three month visa in Bolivia is about up so she is headed back to Peru for awhile. She knows AnnaAdventuring in Aeriquipa. She also met Saritrace while in Bolivia. What she really needs now is a TBer who can bring her a replacement camera from the States (or passing through any duty free airport on the way to Peru. She thought that she might see Dancing Dave and Denise at the end of the year either before or after they visit their son in Toronto. They are also planning to visit us, but I'm not sure she wants to go that long without a camera. Aren't you due for a vacation!!!???

Meeting Tara...
Sounds like you and Linda had a lovely catch-up with Tara. Moon Valley looks very much like parts of Cappodocia in Turkey - loved the photos.

Believe me, Moon Valley was nothing like Cappodocia in Turkey...
it's very much smaller area, and it's hard to get a picture of anything without including board walks and other man made stuff.
