I think I´ve had confimed that most people I know and love in London are OK now, so I´m relaxing. I shan´t go on about it. I really really like La Paz. There´s something about capital cities, isn´t there? They have a special energy. I´d like to hang around here for a few days. My new camera is as like my lost one as can be without actually being it. It´s 7.2 megapixels, a slight upgrade, with a 2.5" screen, a slight downgrade. Don´t know whether it´s a good price or not. Probably not, but not too far off. On my way to buy it, I walked down La Paz´s main thoroughfare. You´re told to expect to see political demonstrations quite often along here. I didn´t. I saw loads of schools parading their sports teams. People ... read more

So were still having fun in La Paz, hanging out and sleeping in. The fruit loop has sadly left us, he's off to Colombia next to take part in some crazy indigeounous rituals so good luck to him! He's been replaced by a Fifer! We met him on the Inca Trail and I cant remeber his name but he's from Cupar and seems very nice, although I'm not sure if he'll make our beds and buy us flowers! I think I've exhausted all the markets because I keep recognising the stallholders and remembering that I had previously told them I didn't have much money so I could get things cheaper! (a good trick the locals use) Another trick is to have just a little bit of change in your pocket and offer that amount, they say ... read more

So were still in La Paz and weve had an extremely busy week of doing not much of anything at all and its great! Every morning our first priority is a smoothie from the market. Although the past couple of days our clock hasnt worked so sometimes we dont make it out of the hostel until mid afternoon! A couple of days ago the clock said 10.30am when we were heading out, we were so proud of ourselves for waking so early and planned to use our day fully by having a nice breakfast and then going shopping and taking in some city sights. On our way out we met a friend in the street, a yank whos name escapes me, hes been here for a couple of months so we asked him to recommend a ... read more

So we´re now in La Paz. Its quite strange being in such a big busy city after being in the countryside for so long but it seems really cool. We got the afternoon bus after going for breakfast at quite a dodgy reataurant in the centre of Copacabana. The guy brought me fried egg with a small black curly hair in it! Yuck! And when i pointed it out he took it away, picked the hair off and brought it back!! Arrgghh! I just gave him a horrified look and he said "oh, do you want a new one"?!? I assured him that i did! So weve spent the past couple of days hanging out and shopping. Everything is so cheap here. Accommodation is about 1.30gbp per night and eating out is about the same. We’ve ... read more

First of all the flight between Sucre and La Paz was an event in itself. It was either a 16 hour overnight bus (warnings of how buses ´fall off the edge of mountains´, especially at night, plus the experience of constant vibrating between Uyuni to Sucre had me convinced it would be 16 hrs of hell), or a 45 minute flight. 45 minutes won. The plane took off and literally just skimmed the top of the alti plano. It really was not very far from the mountains and you could see everything so clearly. I then understood why it would take such a long journey by bus. This part of Bolivia is just one mountain after another with the roads zig zagging up and down each one. In La Paz the airpot is 500m above La ... read more

This trip i did with a Danish fellow named Nils. We climbed 5400m Hati Khollu and then hiked 2 days down the Asiru Marka Valley to a little town called Unduavi. Some of the most impressive terrain I have seen in a long time. I was looking forward to a beer in Unduavi, but realized that it was nothing more than a desserted town, population 1. The only guy in town was some old native fellow wielding a machete! The bus ride back to La Paz was along the WMDR (Worlds most Dangerous road), where a vehicle is lost every 2 weeks into the oblivian below. We saw an accident that day, but fortunately the vehicle went into the ditch rather than over the cliff!!! ... read more

Some photos from La Paz. Crazy but safe city. Seems like everybody has something to sell. What do you need?? I think my favourite part about La Paz was the bowling alley! Why use machines when you can use humans to set up the pins!! Bowling for pins becomes bolwing for humans! Throw a bit of Cerveza into the equation, and it could get ugly!! Ahhhhhh BOLIVIA!!... read more

After reluctantly leaving the beautiful city of Cusco behind, I made my way to the far less charming city of Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. There's very little to see or do in Puno - its basically a base to explore Titicaca, th highst navigable lake in the world at around 4,000m. I think the locals must have sensed my sadness in leaving Cusco and the Sacred Valley behind and gone to extra lengths to throw out the welcome mat. You see, someone (my guess is the town Mayor) arranged for the restaurant we ate in on our first night to play some homegrown music: a bit of Jet and then a Missy Higgins remix. Of all the places I might have thought it possible to hear some Missy in South America, a tiny ... read more

Hey all, The past three months have dragged and also flown by - I fly to NZ in a week. And it seems like I´ve saved the best photos til last! Spending my last week in Bs As though so serious stuff over and I´m sure there´ll be a few drinks about, plus a little more shopping! Well, last entry I was just leaving Cordoba. From there I went to Salta up in th NW of Argentina and met loads of people whol loved Cordoba so I guess I was just there at the worng time. Salta is a lovely little town headed up towards the Andes and there fore at a highter altitude. It´s really wierd when you ... read more
