One of the most well-known attractions in Bolivia is the infamous “Death Road”, also known as the World’s Most Dangerous Road, so called because of the alarming number of road fatalities. For a fee, tourists can experience this for themselves and mountain bike down this perilous route. It's not that wide....

Congratulations!
When I was in Cusco, I had two friends with broken arms--broken on the bike ride on the Death Road. Thus, I decided not to do it. How lucky you'd not met them first, and was able to go down at your own pace and see this great scenery. Job well done, adventurer Rachel!

I hope your friends' arms mended ok. Frankly it was quite terrifying, hence my slowness, but the beautiful scenery definitely made it all worth while!

The death road sounds terrifying I think I would rather walk down. But how did you get up there Tom wants to know.

We got a minivan to the top, rode down on our bikes with the van behind us, and then the van with us in it drove back up and back to La Paz. So about 1 hour to get to the top and about a 3 hour drive back to La Paz.

We lived in Coroico for a month
...but never went on a bicycle down the "Death Road"...I think I'm starting to feel old!

I refused to get any closer to the edge for this photo!!

I just couldn't do it
Our daughter Anna-Louise has done it...you've done it...but no way in the World could I have done it. You are braver than me Rachael. Maybe I could have done the bike part because you can go at your own pace and are the master of your destiny...but to be in a van back up...no no way! I had too many near misses in the mountains in China to serve nine lives...and I've only got one!

You definitely could do it - I didn't think I could, but determination would get you through, and also you could have kept me company at the back as I was muttering to myself that momentum was my friend..... I can tell you I will never do it again!

Courage!
My fingers were squeezing imaginary brakes as I read that Rachael... well done! I would have definitely ridden on the right too...

I could certainly have done with some company down the back!

Edge of the road
I would not do this ride nor would I sit on the ledge as I have a fear of falling. Wow. Brave...? They call it the death road for a reason.
