IGUAZU
brazil panoramic side Right Mr Brazil ye oversized lumpy hot piece of pure unadulterated hallionness all wrapped up in a sweaty blanket…! Are you finished with us yet…you reckon you could maybe chew us up a wee bit more and spit us out, preferably over the border…?!¿ Please ol buddy ol pal…
Sweet, cheers mucker. Take us to aqua, and lots of it… I want to see magnificent falling water crashing off rocks and soaking me as I dive underneath it. Iguazu Falls you say, hmmm…havn´t heard of him before. Is he a far off distant cousin of Nelly Niagra, the biggest fastest water shooter in the west…? Because me and her had a fall in once and boy did she put my knickers in a twist - but I´ll come back fighting I warn ye! Armed with me speedos and earplugs, no devils mouth gonna get me…!!!
So off I bounded…Another coach trip but would you believe, there were actually other westerner type white people on this bus…We had to get off and check we were on the right wagon. And possibly one of the better buses with better rodiovaras (stations)…Spose that’s what you get if you travel in the south. But we wouldn´t know after our 4 weeks in paradise!
So the falls….yeah, well 2 sides to the falls, they drop between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay…So you do the brazil side then cross over the border to the craziest hostel you´ve ever seen where you continue to get absolutely blocked for about 3 days before you even remember why you are there…ahhh the waterfalls. Of course…ooops!
Hostel Inn, you still owe me 50 pesos for bed linen… But yeah, back to the hostel in a mojo, about this waterfall…..or no! At the end of the day, not gonna tell any lies, but basically - WE GOT WRECKED. Nothing else to do in the town and because the hostel was located about 10 minutes outside the centre, the only thing you did at day was get a bus into town to use the cash point and return to get drunk - awesome!! Oh and go skinny dipping at 2 in the morning, always a clever idea…Met some pretty sound Irish and English, so we had a mini like club MED resort type holiday… Don´t see why not!
But anywhooo…about this waterfall, well waterfalls…all 170 odd of them that come crashing down through about 3 or 4 layers of volcanic rock…And dare you ask that question…Niagra WHO? Go wind your neck in Nelly, this is the big boys now, and my bath runs bigger than your pathetic dribble drip drab blob up and down in the water…!
Have a look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iguazu_Falls ... but as usual wikipedia doesn´t do it justice! It took us a full day to walk around the Argentinian side, like from 9 - 5 o clock…But we made sure to see everything…(even if I had only had 3 hours kip - damn you swimming pool!!!)…And its amazing…You just keep taking photos although they all look alike…ha ha ha…and then you go chill on a bench and get soaked by the backwash….then you jump into a boat wearing nothing but your swim swams and they drive you under the water to absolutely drench you to the bone - that was pretty cool!...but after a long hard days slogging around the various paths…Oh and met a scout group…they were well cool, the leader gave me his scarf and wogggle and hat and I did the wee symbol and all, got a photo…check it out when they´re uploaded….back to my days in 1st Saintfield - awesome….Anywho, after the long hard day, we made it to the devils throat, which is right at the top of the waterfalls, where the first water falls from the massive reservoir lake behind. WOW! Its like your waiting for thunderbird 3 to come flying out of its secret layer buried deep within…And there is so much mist and water that you can´t see more than 50 metres in…there could be a dinosaur kingdom from 5 million years ago hidden underneath…but I aint putting my hand up anytime soon to volunteer diving in…sure NAH mate!
A waterfall is basically a waterfall…But when a waterfall becomes about a million mini waterfalls, it fairly makes you stop for a while and appreciate it…Where else you gonna get it! Not in Tollymore anyway…
