Day 199 - Sunday 6 April
Got up early yet again (I can´t wait for a lie in) and bought my bus ticket to Osorno. It was an uneventful 4 hour drive except for when the bus pulled into a small bus station at some town along the way. I saw a dog shagging another dog when suddenly another dog walked over and started shagging the dog shagging the dog (hope that makes sense). I suppose a doggy threesome but one of the dogs (if not all) must have been gay.
Once in Orsorno we managed to catch a bus that would take us over the border into Argentina and to Bariloche. Crossing the border was an easy affair, they didn´t even take my bag of the bus. Ive learnt that apart from in New Zealand and Santiago airport (were although not searched some dogs did sniff at my bags briefly) throughout my travels I could have smuggled just about anything across international borders. Perhaps I must look trustworthy or something but maybe a career becons as a smuggler. It will probably be a bit more exciting than life as an accountant. However Pa nearly never made it. Because
shes from thailand they thought she needed a visa (she doesn´t) and they initially refused to let her in. Eventually somebody must have checked on a computer because they let her in. Shame.
Another few hours later after looking at some nice scenery from the window of the bus, we arrived in town. It was absolutely freezing so I raced to put on as many clothes as I could. The bus stations about half an hours walk from the centre of town, but with Pa moaning and slowing us down it took nearly an hour and my back was starting to get sore from the weight of my bag.
After finding somewhere to stay I needed a break from them so left them to get dinner whilst I went to find somewhere cheaper to stay for tomorrow and finish my research on the south of Argentina.
Day 200 - Monday 7 April
I hadn´t realised that Argentinas an hour ahead of Chile, so when I got up for breakfast I was wondering why nobody was there and there was no food out. I´d missed it. Although the place were staying in is ok theres cheaper in
town so we moved around the corner to our new hostel I found last night. Not only is it cheaper than the hotel we stayed in yesterday but I also think its better.
Leaving Russ and Pa to unpack I went out to get lunch and have an exploration around Bariloche. Its only a small town so it didn´t take long but its a pretty enough country village and theres chocolate shops everywhere. Its what Bariloches famous for and I wandered into a few. I pretended to be serious about buying some and ended up getting loads of free samples. They really do make good chocolate here.
I´ve been doing my sums lately and rather alarmingly i´m now well over budget and in serious danger of having to return home in about 3 months time if I dont start curbing my expenditure. I´ve decided to impose a strict daily budget and no longer repeat activites or sights i´ve seen recently. Tomorrow Russ and Pa are planning to return to Chile to see some penguins, sea lions and dolphins before doing a 3 day boat trip throught he chilean fjords. As I saw all that wildlife back in New
Zealand only a month ago, and the boat trips really expensive i´m not going to go but travel south through Argentina instead. Unfortunately when I imformed Russ of my new plans he also decided to change his plans. So much for my attempt to escape from the 2 of them, next time i´ll have to be more direct.
Theres a really cold wind and as i´ve already seen the sights I didn´t want to hang about in the cold so after 10 mins I made my excuses to Russ and headed back to the hostel. En route I stopped off at a few more chocolate shops for some more free samples.
Speaking to 2 Israelies in my room, they recommended a good Irish bar in town. Apparently it was heaving last night. As it was still early (places don´t even start getting busy until at least midnight in Argentina), we went ten pin bowling. Its really annoying playing against Russ, whenever I bowl rubbish so does he but if I get a strike he responds by getting one as well. He always wins every game by just a point or two no matter what the score is.
After the bowling we headed to the Irish bar. It might have been busy yesterday but its dead tonight so we abandoned it. (I didn´t realise at the time its 200 days to the day sice we left the UK or else we might have made a bit more of an effort)
Dau 201 - Tuesday 8 April
Russ has decided not to join me going south into Patagonia. He thinks the 36 hour bus journey there is too long and will head east to the coast instaed. It looks like i´ll get my break after all.
After getting my breakfast I headed to the bus station to get my ticket. 36 hours straight on a bus will be the longest journey ill have done so far. As my bus doesn´t leave until 9pm I passed the remainder of the morning looking around the souveneir shops before getting lunch. Russ walked past and upon seeing me he came in. Apparently he and Pa have had a big arguement and she´s stormed off. He thinks hes made a big mistake inviting her over as shes been doing his head in as well for the past few days. Well
hes stuck with her now, I did warn him hes only got himself to blame.
After saying goodbye to them I watched the Liverpool v Arsenal Champions league game before heading off to catch my bus which will be my new home for the next couple of days.
