Mendoza is a pretty attractive place, at the foot of the Andes. Modern
city as far as Argentina goes, great vibe - a bit of a mini Buenos Aires and
famous for its wines. Greated at our hostel with an all you can
eat/drink bbq - great start. Met some fun Argentinian girls who took a shine to
an eccentric 50 year old man - unfortunately Fran had to spend the entire
evening translating for them, editing the eccentrics words where
appropriate so as to minimise embarrassment.
All day wine tasting tour the following morning with a 7.15 start took
its toll but we are now connoisseurs and can brew our own in times of need.
Chocolate factory was also a big hit. unfortunatley no Willy Wonka
though.
Salta, in northern Argentina, is an atmospheric place where people sit
around and chew coca leaves all day. A chilled out few days here
seeing some of the amazing colonial architecture and watching some local
bands perform. Day trip to a small village called Cafayate through the
Quebrada de Cafayate - a dramatic gorge with amazing rock formations and
stunning scenery.
Had another fun bbq evening at the hostel
here - Mark was in his
element when a group of American girls thought that him being from S.A was "the
coolest thing they have ever heard". Fran thought that they were
idiots.
Things wern´t good for Fran when she realised that she had been walking
around all day in one of Mark´s shoes and one of her own - no idea how
she hadnt noticed before but embarrasing when 4 year old boys point and
snigger at you in the street.
