We have hooked up with an Australian girl from Canberra who is staying at the same place on the same tour and is waiting for friends to arrive - so went to Copacabana and Carnival together. Also managed a couple of street parties and let Marty get us a drink - bad idea!!!! We had the local version of caprianha and as he couldnt understand what they were saying we ended up with a largeglass of what appeared to be half and half pure spirits. I think they waved a slice of lime over it and crushed a bit of ice but that was about it. The 3 of us shared one and then thought it was a good idea to get another- WRONG! Feeling very ordinary the next day!! Our final day saw us hit the beach at Ipanema, go for dinner at Santa Teresa and then get picked up for the airport at 2am for our 6am flight. They have this weird insistance that we have to be at the airport 3 hrs before the flight and that they have to pick us up an hr before this. Needless to say we were at the airport by 2.45 and couldnt actually check in till 4am!!! I was asleep before we lifted off and didn{t hear the safety speech or anything - just as well as the Aeorolinas Argentinas have pretty crap aircraft and food is a bit rubbish!

Well we have made it to Ushuaia in one piece - although too much luggage as we could not manage to send our costumes home from Rio so as well as Martys 2 large pieces of luggage, my nice little 10 kg backpack has extended to a 10kg box as well as dive gear. Somehow we bluffed our way onto the domestic flight paying no excess despite the 15 kg maximum. I carried about 20kg in hand luggage and we said we were international so they let us have 2 pieces of luggage each - yay! We are posting the costume home from here tomorrow so that'll be good. Ushuaia is very expensive meals are about nz$30-50 each so is a bit of a shock compared to what we have been paying. However the cooler climate is a nice change (yes I did say that) and things are easier to do here. The laundromat is about 50m away as is the post office, an Irish Bar and lots of restaurants. The other good news is there is a USB port on the computer here so I am about to upload some photos for you all.

Anyway will finish here and start loading photos. Off to Antarctica tomorrow on the Aleksey Maryshev - which is very exciting. Marty is a little fluey so am trying to not get any germs from him before we leave. Next entry will probably be from Lima or Cuzco 😊

Hasta luego
