Snow capped peaks in Ushuaia
The cable up to the Martial Glaciar..we're talking brass monkeys! We travelled a long way down Argentina in a wierd looking bus with riot van type protection on it to get all the way to the end of the world and we finally made it in the dark and cold with nowhere to stay! We found a really nice Dutch couple and searched for somewhere to lay our heads with them. We stumbled across a really wicked hostel called Refugio del mochillero where the people were really friendly and we met a boy who'd sailed all the way around the world and was about to go home to Aylesbury (small place eh)?! On our first day we went for a walk to the Martial Glaciar. I say walk... we actually got a taxi to the bottom of the ski lift and then the ski lift to halfway up the mountaina nd then walked for about an hour up some pretty steep hills to make it to the glaciar (just some snow on the top of a mountain really)! My (Alison's) boots tore up my feet and so it was a bit hard going over the last really steep bit (Yes i know you told me to make sure i wore
On the chair lift
Simon's beard kept him warm! my boots in Eleanor)!! We took a lot of pictures and got really really cold and then went back to the hostel for a much needed cup of tea and some dinner. (I feel we should point out at this point that despite being called the 'land of fire', there aren't actually any fires...not even a little sparkling ember...no burning inferno or anything. Just mountains and water - lots of both!!)
On our second day the rain came down like you would not believe and we hunkered down in the hostel in the vain hope that it might pass! By about 4pm it had finally passed so we went for a walk down by the seaside (colder and more stoney than Brighton if you can believe it)! There are photos to follow but again the speed of the Internet and the lack of USB makes adding photos a bit tricky! At this point we want to point out that none of the photos that are on the blog have come from our good cameras. They've come from our 'fell off the back of a lorry' point and shoot paraguaian affair!
On our third day in ushuaia we decided
A boat in the harbour
Its a boat, its got a hole in the bottom, it doesn´t go.....what more can we say? that the rain was all too much and we had to get out! We got a nasty surprise when we asked at the tourist office... it was Monday and the next bus out was Friday (that's what you get for being in the middle of nowhere)! So we got on a plane and headed for El Calafate where the glaciars are a lot bigger and we hoped it wouldn't rain as much! Fingers crossed eh?!
Big love to all especially my little brother whose birthday it is on the 29th March - i'm going to try and send an email but being on a bus to the wine region might mke it tricky... we'll see. Anyhoo... lots and lots of love to all xxxx

hey guys, lovley to hear you're still having fun. i had some not so good news today- got a job in east anglia (yay) but its in norwich. boo. its a good job but its so much further than i expected and refusal isnt an option as there is no guarantee i'd get a job next yr. i think im just in initial shock mode and mainly feel guilty as it means another yr of long distance for me and the bear so am not a happy bunny. long long distance hugs would be highly appreciated.xxx
