Ross: This place is pretty cool, the “city” nestles at the foot of the mountains in a natural bay of the Beagle Channel. It's quite picturesque. in ushuaia the people who ran shops were seriously weird. they had penguin heads on mannequins and went a bit far with the posing. it freaked me out a bit...

our guide all but made us take these photos telling us they were really famous and pushing us over to the signs.

in the front of the picture is the symbol of the national park and the mountain in the background is part argentina, part chile. argentina runs as far as the tree line and from there on up its chile.

a knot in a tree caused by the 'indian bread' fungus the natives used to eat.

our guide told us this tree looked like an octopus. i guess you dont get many octopii down here...

ross really liked these purple mushrooms. our guide did too and told us she had never seen any in 3 years of duiding in the park. she also told us that spiders, a tree disease we saw and a mollusc shell had never been found here before so i think she mainly led walks round the park with her eyes shut. either that or we brought more strange things than just the sunshine to ushuaia

The spongey water bed ground was round the bay just before you got in the trees.
